Hello,

I am new to this site and was wondering if there was anyone
else here that is owned by a Green Iguana?
I recently adopted one and would like as much info on them as I
can get.
I have done research on them but I get many different stories.
Was just wondering what some of you have to say about them.
I am also owned by 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 hamsters, 2 ducks, 1 chicken, 1 pot belly pig, 1 parakeet, 1 Conure, 1 Congo African Grey, 10 male Bettas, 4 Hatchets, 3 White Skirt Tetras, 3 Corys,1 Rainbow Shark, 1 Stripped Loach, and 1 Golden Dojo Loach.

There are lots of forums for green iguanas as well. You may want to try asking this at: http://petreptiles.com/board/viewforum.php?f=10&sid=f2849a5811ed7d59392d90846a21755e

Good luck! Maybe someone else on this board will have experience with these beautiful creatures that they would like to share with you. :)

Hello there Karen, yes I am owned by a green iguana. Her name is Felicia and she is the sweetest thing that u could ever meet. She loves lots and lots of pets and lovin's and plenty of kisses right on her snout at the very middle between her eyes. She is 15 years old and weighs 40 pounds. I saved her from the S.P.C.A. who took her from a drug house here on the west side of buffalo,N.Y. They were going to put her down because of her size and her appetite. I think that they just didn't know what they were doing when it came to a large reptile. She had been abused when they found her as her tail was dropped and so badly mangled that it didn't grow back again so she has a club tail now that will never grow back. She is a very healthy eater and just loves all the attention that i give her. My son even has a friend that worships Dragons[he is a draconian] and he comes over to worship my iguana, she loves the attention. how bout yours?

My Iguana, (Lenore), is still a bit skittish as she is still a baby and I have only had her for a little over a week. She still tries to tail whip me when I take her out of her aquarium. But once I have her out she is calm and loves to be petted. I have been hand feeding her to try to get her a little tamer. But she also eats out of her dish. I have no idea how old she is. She is 18 inches from nose to tip of tail. So I figure she isn't much over 2 months old.
I'm not even sure it is a female or male yet. So for now I am going to call it her!(Well, Lenore).
She is going through her first shedding, and seems to be a little more jumpy than usual. Maybe this is normal.
I am still learning about Iguana's, but I am fully ready for the challenge of being owned by her. I prefer to say that because I don't like saying I own them! They are more like family.
I am just hoping that as she gets older she gets more tame.
Some people say Iguanas are the hardest reptile to keep and to tame. Then I hear other people say they are real sweethearts.
I would love to see a picture of Felicia. How long is she?
40 pounds sounds pretty big!!
I know they can get up to about 6 ft. long.
I am going to start building Lenore a really big cage for when she starts growing to big for her current home, which is a 55 gallon aquarium.

Hello Karen, I know that alot of people will tell u not to feed a green iguana livefood, but, when they are little like yours is it is good to feed them crickets dusted with some reptocal or reptovite. I prfer reptocal as it has worked better for me over the years. Felicia is my third lizardso far and I had raised my former lizard from a hatchling which it sounds to melike u have. When I first got my "missy" she was even smaller than the one u describe now. Felicia is my second and I got her 2 years ago from the SPCA who wanted to put her down because of her size and her ferocity. She was taken in a drug raid here in N.Y. the dealers were using her to protect their crack cocaine. She has a club tail as they mangled her pretty badly so she only goes about 3 and a half feet in length tops, but, what she lacks in length she makesa up in body girth. She has no reason to bite or attack anymore and is the most lovable reptile u could ever meet. As your reptile grows older it will no longer require as much as feeding crickets, i gave mine crickets until they were about 2 yrs. old and then slowly weened them off. Give your baby plenty of pets and gentle handling and they will get used to u. Don't beleive everything that u jear about iguanas

Hello CritterCrazy & ladyang, I would sugest that you both invest in a good UVB light and also how are you caging and keeping your iggys? You should always provide a basking spot of 98 and a cooler spot of 79, Also provide a large water dish prefferably one thats big enough for soaking, use lots diffrent fruits and veggies for your iggy, when young i would go easy on the crix and supplament with few wax worms and few night crawlers/earth worms, ony twice a week, you should always keep fresh fruits and veggies available at all times.. Always coat the fresh food with a good vitamin, When larger you can once a month give your iggy a newborn pinky mouse. Make sure to keep nails trimed and you can also use a product for skin called,
"Four Paws Vita Spray" Its the best on the market that i have used for reptiles and keep skin smooth and supple and also helps tons with shedding.. If ya get the chance have a vet do a stoll check for parasites as well as a check for vitamin or or defficencies..
