Does anyone know how to get my dogs to quit eating cat litter?? The litter box has a cover and everything ... I caught my dogs in their a couple of times and scolded them but that's all I have done... They won't stop! The litter box is scooped and cleaned often too ... Any suggestions on how to stop this??? Thanks for Reading!

You need to get a litterbox that is tough for the dogs to get into (like a top-entry one) or put in a spot inaccessible to the dogs, like in a closet with a kitty door on it or something. I have my litterboxes in my basement, and a baby gate at the top of the steps so the dogs can't get down there.
There is a product you can add to the cat's food to make their poop taste bad, but most of the time it won't stop the dogs. They love 'kitty kandy', LOL.
It's very important you block them from eating the litter, especially if its the clumping kind. It can clump in their stomach or bowels and kill a dog.

I agree with Phillydogs. I have my box in a storage room that has a door. I have a chain lock on the door that I added a few extra links to. It's just big enough for the cats to get in, but keeps the dogs out.
Good luck.

I actually put in a "dutch door" -- the two-part doors where both halves can swing open freely. I was tired of stepping over baby gates and I didn't want to completely close off the laundry room. So the top half stays "open" all the time, the bottem half stays closed (like a regular door), the cats easily just jump up and over...and the dogs stay OUT! :D Keeps 'em from scarfing the cats' food too!

That's a really good idea!

They sell cat doors for indoors. I keep my litter box in a seperate room, most of the time the door is shut so installed one of these doors, the cat goes through it like a doggy door. You can put it through your wall or your door. It works great. Also, try training the dogs to stay away from the litter box. Stand in front of it, as the dogs approach you take a step towards them. They will eventually learn that is yours. It takes time and consistancy but it will work.
Good Luck
