I have a grumpy papillion who bites and barks.Hes very tempermental which normally I can handle. But just a few minutes ago he started crying and yelping and I looked at him and his paw was bleeding. It looks like he ripped his toenail off.Im so scared.I can tell hes in a lot of pain because he cant even walk up the stairs. And he wont let me carry him. What should I do?
His poor little paw.His little nail is still hanging off.Im just about crying I hate to see him hurt.Any advice?

It may be difficult since he won't let you handle him. Is it bleeding alot? If there is a way you can get some bacitracin or some type of antiseptic on it then you should definately try it. Then try to wrap it in a bandage, tape it to keep it on. Then give the vet a call in the morning. If it's bleeding profusely I would call their service and see if you can get a call back with instructions.

I know this is probably a little late - but you can use Super Glue to stop the bleeding. Put just a little on and blow on it so it drys quickly. Dogs won't lick at it and it will just fall off when it is healed underneath. Just make sure you blow on it till dry because you can end up with all kinds of things stuck to it. Just make sure you don't touch the glue to too much of the hair.
Chelsea tore a toenail off once and we used the super glue to stop the bleeding and a little bit of neosporin everyday to prevent infection.
Best of luck.
