My 7 month old is having a hard time this winter. I can't even take her for walks since the salt/cold combination is making it impossible to walk any longer than 5 minutes or so. I've tried buying the booties, but they just do not stay on her feet. I've even tried a couple different sizes. I once heard that vaseline is good to put on their pads. What do you think?
I know this is really harming her cause while outside she lift up her paws like they're in pain and she'll limp a bit. And this does only happen outside. And now I've noticed the bottom of her pads are very very rough. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

If her pads are dry and cracked, no doubt the rock salt that she walks over is literally "salt in the wound." Be sure to rinse your dogs paws whenever you come in from a winter walk, and also, you might try applying a farm product like bag balm to her pads to help soothe and heal them. It was originally made for cows' udders, to keep them soft and supple. Now, they market it for pets, too.

I'm sure there are other products, but I have used this one. You can find it in hardware stores, drug store, and farm stores.

Did you buy the actual Muttluks or a knock-off? The muttluks are much better.

Sure you've though of this, but is there any grass available? Maybe you could change your route slightly?

We bought the fleece booties for our sibes, when they were puppies to get them used to wearing booties, but also cuz puppies foot pads are so delicate, here is another thing you can try.

Ha, I wish! I'm in Montreal Canada, and there is no sign of grass anywhere here! Otherwise, that'd be ideal. Thanks tho!

Duct tape them on? Wrap the tape over the boot, not the dog.

Thanks for all the suggestions! But I think I'm going to try Vaseline. I was told that by a groomer and another long time dog owner. I guess it keeps the pads soft and it's all natural, so it'd be safe if she tries to lick it.
