My little girl, likes to chew on her front nails. Now keep in mind that my wife is a vet tech and keeps her well groomed. Is it like a nervous thing like us humans or just boredom. She has plenty a toy and bone to chew on, Im just wondering if the deal is cause she is a Pit, or, stress which their isnt much. This seems to be a new vice for her.

My dog did that just catch her out and say no everytime you see her do it. It could be because they are itchy so the dog wants to itch them by biting them im really not sure sorry... just tell her off when you see her do t it worked for my dog.

IMO....it's not related to any particular breed. Dogs will be dogs after all. I've observed the same with our dogs...especially when they have clumps of mud stuck in between the nails. Until the dog overdoes it....I won't get concerned. Keep a close eye on her paw....just in case!

I have heard they will chew on their feet if they have allergies.

Yer my dog has alergies all on his tummy and in between his toes so he is always biting there too but we put lots of cream on him t soothe it... the only problem is to try not to let him lick it off before it has soaked in haha lol

I would also suspect allergies if the chewing is chronic. What are you feeding?

You might try bathing/soaking his feet in Malecetic shampoo (I purchase it from Countryside Pets online, suds the foot and leave it on for 10 minutes, then rinse); check the nails for a dark brown or rusty band on them near the top of the nail bed. That is usually a sign of a yeast infection and would explain the nail chewing. If it is a yeast infection, you will actually see the rusty/brown discoloration grow out, and your dog will start to leave his feet alone -- if this is the problem.

A lot of dogs do this from anxiety also, and boredom. But it's worth looking into a fungal or yeast infection.
