Is There Any Thing That You Can Use To Cover The Heat Scent Put Off By One Dog. I Have Two A Basset And A Chiuahuaha. The Basset Is In Heat And It Is Driving The Other One Crazy. He Cant Eat, Sleep, He Looks Like A Mad Dog. I Can't Afford To Have Them Fixed. I Heard About Something Called Lust Buster But Couldn't Find It. I Appreciate Any Help You Can Give Me.

Thank You For Your Replies. I Know It Would Be Better For Them To Be Fixed But The Money Is Not There. I Have Not Worked Since The Oklahoma Bombing Due To Depression. And To Answer Why I Got Them If I Couldn't Afford To Take Care Of Them Is That The Basset Came From Some One Who Didn't Want Her And The Owner Of The Chiuahuaha Came From A Lady Who Had Brain Cancer. She Wanted Me To Keep Him And I Didn't Want To But Felt It Was The Right Thing To Do. Her Family Didn't Like Sammy. She Never Made It Home And I Fell In Love With Sammy So We Kept Him. My opinion is that nothing covers that scent up. Good luck keeping the dogs seperated. You might have some odd looking pups...

I totaly understand the financial part of it, but what if you were to slowly save up to just have the female fixed? It might be worth your while...just a suggestion.

There is no way to cover the scent up, the male dog will always be able to smell it. Why'd you get the dogs if you can't afford to fix them? That is a part of being a responsible pet owner is getting them fixed. I hope you are keeping them seperate because it is very possibly you are going to end up with pups. I'm sorry that I don't have any help for you, but the only way to help the situation is to have them both fixed. Its a lot healthier for them and going to be a lot more expensive if you female ends up with pyometra (pus in the uterus) that some get or uterine cancer, or mammary tumors, or esepcially if she gets pregnant. And it will be more expensive to treat your male for testicular cancer or something of that sort than to get him fixed. In the long run it will be cheaper to fix your dogs and there is no worry of pups and no heat cycle to have to deal with. Good luck.

Its definitely more affordable than buying food & toys, and paying for vet visits, for lots of puppies!

I agree with everyone above. There isn't any way of covering it up. I would definately bite the bullet and get her spayed, him nuetered, preferably both, but at least one of them for now, even if you have to borrow the money from someone. It will definately cost ALOT more should she end up pregnant, between the cost of vet care for her and any pups, food, care, etc. It will also save you and your dogs the stress of what happens during the heat cycle, which you will have to endure every 6mos.

ooo, sounds like my parents retriever, these past few weeks, while my husky was in heat. The retriever would constantly bark and howl and run around her kennel, and do everything he could to try to get in there, but nothing can get in there. He was just.... insane to say the least, wouldn't eat or drink.

I'm so sorry about your situation and your illness. There are ASPCA programs and vets that will have her spayed for free. Please try to look into that. It will be a HUGE help to you.

AS others have said don't waste your money trying to cover up the scent. It really won't help. Keep them seperated for at least 30 days from the start of her heat to make sure even after she stops bleeding she CAN be receptive for mating

Males find a away to get through almost anything to get to the females so crate them in seperate rooms with closed doors when you aren't around

Please look into ASPCA's ( Humane Societies, as some are called ) and they will help you with getting your pets spayed/neutered. There are a lot of people that get pets without thinking about the spaying/neutering end of it and I don't think no one should be coming down on someone for owning a pet and can't afford neutering/spaying. Maybe someone should set up a fund here to help people who can't afford to get their pets spayed/neutered? Just because one can't afford spaying/neutering doesn't mean one can't own pets and I'm sure the unspayed/unneutered pets are well taken care of otherwise.
Please don't respond to anymore questions about why you have pets and can't afford spaying/neutering. You explained once and that's enough. Just contact the ASPCA's or Humane Society and they will help you with spaying/neutering but most of all get the female spayed.

Thank You Very Much For Your Kindness. The Animals Are Very Well Taken Care And Loved To The End Of The Earth. Well And I Guess Even Beyond Earth Because Ruth Will Probably Want Sammy Back Once We He Gets To Heaven. I Guess We Will Have To Share Him. He Has Enough Love For The Both Of Us. Have A Good Day.
