I have a question for anyone who might have gone through a similar situation with their dog. I have a Lab who recently had 14 puppies (11 days old today), this is her third litter and I don't remember her having problems before this. The situation is one of her breast is hard and swollen-similar has happened before if there were long intervals between feedings with her previous litters-and now I'm not sure what to do help drain it. Her pups have nursed from it and it has gone down a little. I have tried to express some milk from it to relieve the pressure but it seems like there is some pus coming out with the milk. I would appreciate any input-Thanks, Dana

Your dog has mastitis which is a bacterial infection of the milk ducts. It can be fatal to the dog and the pups, especially if, as you say, she has had it before. Your dog needs to go to the Vet now. Ask about bottle feeding the pups and if mom should be bred again. (Answer is probably no.)

She needs to see a vet right away. That tit could burst and endanger her life.

I agree. It is very dangerous for new born pups to let the pups nurse while she has an infection, get to a vet ASAP

You most likely will end up bottle feeding if the infection is spread more into other nipples or may just have to make sure they don't nurse on the infected ones. Only a vet can make that determination though.

In the mean time try some warm compreses on the infected area to help drainage
