First time user on this site.
I have 2 cats, they are sisters.
One cat Bella who has always been the bigger one has lost a little weight.
I just finished my basement and the house has been turned upside down for the last 3 weeks. Everything is back to normal in the house. After we completed the basement, we had to leave for 2 days but my mom stayed at our home.
Bella isn't eating her dry food. She is drinking water and eating wet food. I could tell something was wrong with her because her fur looked distressed or something. She is urinating fine and I can't catch her pooping but someone is in the litter box and it seems to be to much for just one cat. We changed the litter a couple days ago and do every week. She is an indoor cat and isn't exposed to outside or other animals other then her sister. She was in good health and got all of her vaccinations in July. Do you think that she is just adjusting to all the changes?
I have made a vet appointment for tomorrow evening.

It could be stress. The fact that she will eat wet food and not dry might also indicate that her teeth are bothering her. How old is she?

She is 4 but will be 5 in March. I do brush her teeth her teeth. I looked in her mouth and don't see any irritation at all.
She is normally a medium sized cat but has a hanging belly.
I can feel her spine and her sit bones in the back close to her tail. Do you think the hangin belly is causing that? I think she lost about 3-4 pounds.
She is still playing but doesn't seem that chipper. Normally her and her sister wrestle and run around the house. She just seems a little withdrawn.
Maybe depression?

I would tend to lean more towards a medical condition like thyroid or CRF. The weight loss is disturbing.

Is there a reason that your cat would be depressed, like the loss of a family member?

With the basement being done and people in and out of the house, she just didn't get the personal time that she is used to.
What is the CRF you are reffering to?

I looked up the CRF and hope that isn't it. That sounds terrible!

CRF is terrible. I lost a cat to this less than a month ago. It is, however, manageable. My cat lived with it for years with nothing more than a dietary change.

Please keep us posted as to what your vet thinks. There are many, many reasons why cats lose weight.

We took Bella to the vet today and they took Urine and Blood samples. We will find out by tommorow what the status is.
She was a little dehydrated but other then that she only weighed 10.5 pounds and last vet appointment she was 14 pounds.
Of course they say it might be Renal Failure or Diabeties but we will not know until tomorrow.
I will keep you posted.:(

It has been confirmed that Bella does have Stage 3 Kidney Failure. They beleive she was born with Kidney failure and that is why she is at Stage 3 at 5 years old. My actual Vet is out of town until friday so I am getting her sub Q fluids until he gets back to go over all my options. The fluids seem to make her feel better. She is eating Kidney Diet food and seems to like it.
I was a little disappointed in the attending vet because she called and gave me all of my levels that came back from the lab but didn't go over how I can keep her quality of life going prior to getting a kidney transplant. So I spent 2 days thinking my cat could die at any moment. It was a pretty bad weekend. After doing some research, I have found that cats can live with this disease with a little TLC! Does anyone have any stories to share about this so that I can understand this disease a little better.
