Well, my husband brought our puppy (Abbey) to the vet to get fixed today. I'm nervous for her even though people do this all the time. But it's different when it's your very own dog. Plus since she's female I'm afraid it'll be worse on her than a male...right? I just hope all goes well and that she doesn't get an infection after. And I hate that I have to leave her overnight! I'll miss her so much. I just know she'll be so scared in a strange place. She's never been without me a night since she was 6 weeks old. Can anyone share some good experiences with going through this to ease my worries? Thanks.

Awww, I can completely relate to how you are feeling. I'm sure most people who read this post will also. It is different when it's our dog, and we always worry. You are doing the right thing and I'm sure she'll do just fine. To make you feel a little better, she will probably be groggy and just feel like sleeping, so she probably won't be all that scared.
Please let us know how things go.

I'm sure she'll be fine. Try not to worry (yeah right).
Let us know how it goes.

It costs more, but for our peace of mind regarding our dogs and surgery, we get bloodwork first and request gas anesthetic.
Will there be anyone in the office overnight?
It is one of the best things you can do for her. She will be fine. She will be happy to see you when you pick her up.

I am sure she will be fine! Will put her in the doggie prayers tonight!
Question??? Has everyone had to leave their dog overnight for this? Mine came home the same day.
I hope this help... my female took hers MUCH better than my male! She will be fine I am sure of it! Let us know!

Yes, she will be just fine! I would have an e-collar waiting at home, should she be the type to fuss with her stitches. My female never needed to wear it, my male setter, however, had to be in the collar for a week. My female did stay overnight. The male did not.
I'm sure the vet will also tell you to wean her very slowly back onto food and water. She'll be sleepy/slow for a good bit, but that usually gives time for us worried petlovers to calm down!
Really, you're doing a good thing for her. She may even be too groggy to notice (or care) that she's not in her own bed -- you, however, will, be counting the hours till she comes home. I know the feeling!
Covering you and Abby in my prayers!

We were able to bring Storm home that afternoon. Dropped her off at 6, surgery at 9, pickup at 5.

Wow, thank you everyone so much for the support! Made me feel great! Yeah, she HAS to stay overnight, they didn't give me an option. And we are opting to get bloodwork done as she's never had any done before. I had to get my husband to drop her off today, I would've found it hard to leave her!
By e collar, you mean the cone thing? I'm hoping she won't need it since we'll be home with her this weekend and hopefully I'll be able to keep a close watch on her.
But I'll come back once I hear how it went!
Before we could bring Chloe home from the shelter she had to be spayed. She was supposed to stay all night, but I called the vet right before they closed and they said it was ok to pick her up. We just couldn't wait to get her. She really didn't know us very well. We had only visited her at the shelter. I think she was even more happy than we were to curl up w/ my husband that night, who slept w/ her on the couch. It was really sweet.
