My cockatiel has a bald spot...I've had it for only 2 weeks, it was a gift. What could this be??

Newbirdie,

Is it an iodine defficiency? Maybe there was an irregular moult? I have heard about this happening with Gouldian Finches. Take the bird to the vet, to see that all is well. The vet will probably give you something, if anything is wrong with the bird. Hope all is well.

Lutinos sometimes have bald spots but the bald spot on yours looks a little low. Was he or she caged with other tiels? It could have been plucked by another tiel (sometimes the parents will pluck their babies too...I have a tiel that has a blad spot on her neck and the feathers are thin on her head because she was plucked by her parents when she was a baby).

It is always a good idea to take a new bird to the vet for a check up to make sure it is healthy anyways so I would take him/her to the vet for a checkup. :)

I agree I would take her to a vet.
