Dante`, my male pit has a stinky ear...i was wondering if anyone knew of and was willing to share a home remedie that i can clean it out with. The silly boy will let me do ANYTHING to him, but i know he doesn't enjoy the vet and niether does my wallet. I don't think he has an infection, but it may get there if I dont clean it out. If anyone knows a way to treat ears without the vet, please share. Thanks pitmama

Stinky ears usually point to a yeast infection which needs antibiotics.

I wouldn't risk home remedies myself.

Sounds like a yeast infection to me.

I have a puppy that my vet has already warned me will have yeast infections in his ears when he is older. Once diagnosed, he will work with me to get the meds that I need without return visits, but I've worked with him for 11 years and he trusts my call. How's your relationship with your vet?

Sorry, but I have to disagree with this approach. If it is a yeast infection, simple cleansers are not enough to treat them. Cleaning them on a regular basis can help prevent them for re-occuring, but not cure them once they have it. A diagnosis by a vet is important initially so that you are treating the problem effectively.

I have to go along with Amy here, your dog's *infection* was not an infection.

Ear wash of any type can clean ears and get rid of waxy odor but cannot treat infections.

My puppy had a waxy wet smelly ear too. I took him to the vet and they gave me Nolva-Cleanse to put in his ear and take a cotton ball and swipe it once a day. Also ANIMAX ointment to put in twice a day for the infection, for a week.
