View Full Version : Bailey, baby Great Dane

Aside from his feline step-sister, this pup is my reason for living and breathing. Bailey is both deaf and blind and was almost killed by the breeder (starved within days of his life). I'll skip the details, you can read them in his "day 1 (http://bailey.nicolediana.com/?p=133)" blog entry if interested.
Anyway, here he is...the greatest dane ever! I'm a little biased but it is okay. :D

OMG, what an amazing change. I will never understand the ability of someone to be able to look at a dog, see that they are starving, and do nothing.
You have done a wonderful job!!!

Bless your heart -- and Bailey's too! Keep writing and sharing, Nicole. It is an amazing testimony, in our "disposable" society, that EVERY life has value...
Certainly anyone looking at those pictures or reading Bailey's blog will see that. You are showing us all what it means to believe in (and practice) love's supernatural ability to restore hope and dignity to those who are "crushed in spirit." (Psalm 143)
Your story made my day. I look forward to following Bailey's progress! :)

Bailey has turned out to be a beautiful dog. You're a very special person for taking him in and caring for him. I'm sure this has been asked before, but how do you train a blind and deaf dog? I can see training a dog with one or the other, but not both. Your story of his rescue is amazing - thanks for sharing!

What a happy ending!!! Thanks for sharing the story! I hope the breeders were at least charged and convicted of animal cruelty!
Your pup is a doll!

Training Bailey isn't easy and won't be but both of us are learning each day. I'm using vibration techniques and touch commands.

That is so sad that Bailey passed. Thanks for letting us know Lisa.
I know NicoleDiana is feeling guilty but she really shouldn't. Sometimes situations are just out of our hands. She may never know what caused the seizure so she shouldn't blame herself.
It is especially hard when it is unexpected and quick.
I can tell by the blogs and this post that Bailey was loved. Thank you again NicoleDiana for saving him from his initial bad situation.
Wishing her the best during this tough time.

How sad to hear this news. I have been following the blogs since she started them and was waiting for the update on her move. This is so sad! I commend her for the life she gave Bailey while he was with her.

I just finished Bailey's blog and was very saddened by it and what a rough time Bailey had of it. Thank goodness for Nicole and the wonderful life he had with her after his first 11 weeks on this earth. Bailey certainly was growing into a very handsome fellow who was overcoming his blindness & deafness. Nicole I am so sorry that in the end Bailey didn't make it, but you sure spared no expense or effort for Bailey and I commend you for that. May you continue doing rescue in Bailey's memory. Bless you.

I'm so sorry to hear about Bailey, at least Bailey had comfort while he was alive with you. The person who miss treated Bailey should be ashamed of themselves. You where Bailey's hero and know Bailey's your angel. You gave Bailey a chance at life, that he would not have had without you.

I cannot believe that it has taken me almost one year to return here.
Never underestimate the pain a person can feel over the loss of a pet, that is for certain.
Thank you to everyone who not only followed Bailey's short but meaningful life but also gave me encouragement to keep moving forward. It was an experience that I would go through again as I learned many things about the special-needs pets out there. When I'm out of apartment life and back into a house one day, I shall adopt again and if I'm lucky, I will once again be blessed with a pup who teaches me more than I could ever teach him.
