Now I don't feel so bad about the trenches my beagle, Ruby digs. At least they had a good time doing it. Now, if they would just learn to fill the holes back in.

i've never quite understood that lol, my huskies dig ALL the time, they love to, and then they run up to me, with dirt all over their faces and paws, its weird how it doesn't stay on that type of fur for very long though

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if they were scheming! Koda is definately the instigator.
As far as their coats, no, they don't stay dirty. I've found if double coated dogs are brushed daily they don't get very dirty or develop odors.

When we lived in FL Shadow LOVED to dig holes. She does not much care for the clay here in SC, thank goodness! We have been renovating since we got here and I am not sure I could handle the constant falling into holes. She can dig a hole just big enough for your foot.....and make it 3 feet deep.
