My hamster put a piece of apple in his jowels and it seems he can't get it out. it was a little too big i guess. he did it and it seemed like he was trying to get it out because he was making weird moments soon after. usually he just picks it up and eats it but i guess he was too excited to get it this time and he got it stuck in his jowel. it been there about two weeks now and I am worried he will get an infection or something. he seems normal in every other way. active, running on wheel, eating drinking and such. but is he in trouble now? should I call the vet? has this ever happened to any one elses hamster out there? please help I am so worried. :( he is a black bear hamster he has never bitten anyone.

omigosh! I was totally off baSE ABOUT THE APPLE! the vet showed me the inside of his cheek pouch and it was pink and healthy. first he took my word for it and tried to push it out. eww it was gross because it looked like shadow's eyes would pop out. then he looked inside with the thing they use to look inside ears, noses, cheekpouches, etc.. you know with the light.. and it was clean. then he speculated that it was either a tumor or an abcess. so then he stuck a needle/syringe thing in it from the out side to see if he could extract any puss out of it. if he had been able to that would ofcourse mean that it was an abcess. but it was not, nothing came out of it. SO he said it was a tumor. a fast growing one too apparently. so he had surgery today (wednesday) and they cut it out. but wait i need to quit calling shadow a "he" because he is a "she". the people who sold him to me always said "he" so we followed suit. she is doing great and looks so much better. she has to have sujers sugers ... i don't know how to spell that word... removed in 10 to 14 days.
