I am always afraid that my pets are going to contract some sort of bug when I have friends over with pets. I don't really mention this to my friends except in a roundabout way. I try to milk them for info on the last time they have had their pet looked after and I pretend that I am coaxing for advice rather than coming right out and saying.. HEY! What kind of disease does your animal have, I don't want it around my precious......:p

You posted about the cat with feline Leukemia, right? If that is the case, you do not want any more feline visitors. You also should let anyone who has brought any cats over know about the disease. It can spread very quickly, especially amongst cats who eat together and share the same litterbox.

Could your kitty have come down with Fel-Leuk from one of your visitors?

But to be honest, I don't think it is rude to ask about any visitors being up to date on their shots. It isn't fair to risk your pets life on ceremony!
