I got my male Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (Oliver) in November, and am so entralled with him that I have put my order in with the breeder for a baby girl. He has some ready to go now, but all are male. No offense guys, but I have my heart set on a female tri-color this time. Breeder says another litter sometime in the late spring/early summer may produce one, and I'm in no hurry, really, so that's fine.
Here's the question. After they become accustomed to each other, do multi-dog households put two dogs in the same crate together during "human away" time and bed time? Do most dogs accept most other dogs with open arms? (Not for breeding, just as buddies.) Will Oliver start again with the house peeing if a baby is just beginning her training?
Anything you can share or suggest would be great!

I have no clue how it will be for you lol, I can only tell you what it is like for me in my 4 dog 3 cat house.

None of the above will share crate overnight. They will curl up together during day, but their bed is THEIR BED. The griffon and chi are 1 week apart in age, they started off together and wound up getting seperate crates after about the 2nd month together, the fights starting getting serious over bed, blankie, toy and I decided I could not leave them unsupervised overnight.

The golden would probably welcome company in her bed, but it won't happen only because the other 3 are crated seperately.

Nobody has backtracked as far as training goes, I always try to remember just because puppy is littler I must not cuddle, shield or hold puppy more than the older ones, they do get jealous!

Hi blenheimbeau... how old is Oliver?. If he's still young when you get your little girl, you should have no problem with them getting along together right away. There is a chance Oliver will go through some accident stages when you bring the puppy home, they do it to mark their territory as a rule. I will crate my guys separately.. only because I feel they need their own space and I put toys and goodies in the crate to keep them busy...they might get into an arguement over the toys and goodies. Best of luck to you :).

Thanks so much!
Oliver is just 6 months, and loves everyone and everything!

Anyone else?
