I haven't taken her to the vet yet but I just wanted to see if anyone here might have any idea as to what's wrong with her.

Last night, she started squawking while lying on her back. I thought she might have fell off a perch and couldn't get up because I know she is definitely overweight and doesn't fly very well, so I put her back on her feet but not more than a few minutes later, she went back onto her back and squawked again, feet in the air. When she does sit on her feet for the very few times I've seen today, she has her face down on the ground, head drooped.

Her diet and droppings seem normal, as usual.

I tried searching online but have not found anything similar to what I see. Please let me know if you have any hunch as to what might be going on.

She wasn't playing? My hen Boris loves to lie on her back playing.
If she is very overweight she might be too heavy to stand on her own feet and is a prime candidate for a heart attack. I would cut down a little on her seed and feed more vegies. Definately don't give her any sunflower seeds as these are very fatty.
Can you take her out of the cage & put her on the floor and play chase her around so that she is getting exercise?

Wow... my budgie goes into squawking mode when she gets in a mood but not onto her back....that sounds like some kind of seizure????? DON'T quote me but again....wow!! I hope you figure it out!!!! Good Luck to you and your little girl.

Thanks Sandibird.... but she died last night. I was gonna take her to emergency after an avian vet on another forum said that she probably had a stroke but i could not afford $165 for pet emergency.... and she didn't live the night for me to take her the next morning to a regular vet.

She was probably unhealthy because of her weight and I don't know how old she was because we got her and 3 others from someone who didn't want them. Anyway, I'm sad but I have fond memories of her!

sorry to hear that your bird died! my budgie recently died and was doing the exact same thing you described. for weeks after he died my mum and i had tiny little mites on us hat left big itchy bites so we thought it may have been that he died of mites. have you found out what happened yet?

Very sorry to hear she passed :(
Just so people know, birds can't breathe very well when turned on their backs, so if for one reason or another they are having trouble staying upright, you'll have to find a way to keep them up!

That is so sad will you bury her?? I make little boxes and line them with some nice soft material for any of my sweeties that pass on, one time I had a little grave stone made for my kitty-cat and put her in the garden. Well hang in there!!!! things will get better day by day try and stay strong for your other feathered friends!!!
