Whats wrong with my Betta fish

My betta has been in great health untill a couple weeks after christmas. For Christmas I got him 2 little frogs, the women at the pet store said her Betta had some in his tank and loved them so I thought it would be ok. well a week ago I found the frogs dead and now all my betta does is lie at the bottom of the tank. I cleaned the tank out really good a number of times since then and there arent any odd marks on him like he has something but whats funny is now he keeps trying to cral under the rocks and bury himself or squeeze himself between things and get stuck he has never done this before. He also used to get really excited when I would feed him now he doesnt even move. I know he is old (almost 2) but with the frogs dieing and his odd behavior I just dont know what to do or what to give him. Is he depressed because the frogs died of is he dying? What should I do?

Taking a stab at this, if beta was always alone and then you added frogs, could there have been a major territorial battle? The frogs died and the beta is totally worn out from the fighting?

good answer thanks but I really dont think so I never saw him fight the frogs most of the time he was swimming away from them like he was scared infact I was going to take them out and put them in there own tank when I found them dead.

That is so sad, I have no idea what could've happened either. This is the first time I've ever heard of a Beta sharing its home with another living creature... and they lived. Hmmm.. guess anythings possible. My step daughter has a Beta and decided to get a goldfish(in its own bowl) and set them side by side. Its so cute, they hang in their bowls next to each other... I'm sure the Beta is probably saying "let me at him!" LOL. But they seem to be keeping each other company ;). Good luck with your guy.

My cousin has some beta fish. His gal beta gets along with the other fish in her tank. But he says that boy betas attack any fish (or frog) in its tank, therefore he won't put his boy beta in his big fish tank. Do you have a boy beta or a girl beta? If its a boy, then it probably was afraid at first then it killed your frogs. If its a girl, I cannot help. Maybe the clerk had a girl beta?

Its definitely a boy Betta but I know he didn't kill the frogs he stayed as far away from them as he could. I just don't know he looks sick to me he will kind of float on his side and now all he does is stay in his house I don't even see him come out to eat and food has always been his favorite time I just wish I could help him.

Thanks for the concern. I am OK he lived almost 3 years so he was old and he lived a happy life and I have my bird still but there's a little empty space on my entertainment stand and in my heart.

I inquired about placing betas in a community fish tank without any other betas or other aggressive fish of course, and they said it was perfectly all right. I do it all the time.

Frogs are sometimes known to be aggressive and maybe they stimulated a territorial battle, as someone else has already suggested.

Kelliesmommie, I am so sorry to hear about your betta. I was goingto say that it sounded to me like he was getting ready todie, after all he was pretty old. Please don't pay any mind to lilpuppygal every animal of any kind she owns dies,alot of us are really beginning to wonder. Just remember your betta is now having the time of his life in the biggest pond he could ever dream of after all there is no more sickness in animal heaven. Hang in there Kelliesmommie
