I have a miniature pinscher that is almost a year old. She had her first heat cycle maybe 2 months ago, and now all of a sudden she has started again. I thought that dogs had their heat twice a year and usually about 6 months apart. Should I be worried?

Yes, please take her to the vet immediately.
We had a spayed female who was diagnosed with kidney crystals...her symptoms were similar to a heat. Kidney crystals are the early stage of stones and early detection saved her from going through a lot of pain later.
It might be number of things and that you should get it checked. Hope she is fine!!

Nikita (my min pin) is not spayed though. Is it possible that she just has her heat at weird times? I mean, they are supposed to have them twice a year right?

I am surprised you have still not taken her to your vet!! The dog might be in a serious condition. Normally they go in heat at an interval of 6 months. You dog's condition is not normal.
Please read this article by following this link.

Read the last paragraph in the link carefully.
"Consult with the doctor if your pet does not seem typical. Sometimes, cycling problems can be an early warning of more serious problems, and the sooner they are dealt with, the better. "
Your dog might be really hurting bad right now. Please....please get her to your vet as soon as you can. I see that you are pretty young yourself. Do you have anybody else to help you to take her to the vet?

I made an apointment to take her to the vet tonight. I did not think that she was in pain because she runs and plays and is her normal self (other than the bleeding)

You had me really freaked out, so I called my vet to see if I should bring her in right now. She said that their first period is really weird and that since it is light it is probably just some risiduals left over. We are taking her in anyway....

Hey, sorry I freaked you out!! When we had similar thing going on with Emma, she was in pain. She had to pee every now & then and would pass blood and looked like heat. She otherwise acted normal but when the vet checked her out, they found crystals in her urine.
I hope your dog is okay and nothing serious going on with her!! Keep us posted!!
