I'm moving this week to another house about 12 minutes away from the one I'm in know I don't have a carrier for Hamlit and need some ideas on how to get him to the new house should I just take all the hanging toys out of his cage and take him in that??
thanks

YOu could do that or you could but him in a box like you would get a pet in from a petstore. I'm sure you can get one from a petstorefor free or about fifty cents. That way you keep him on your lap and talk to him all the way there.

If little Hamlit has never been out for a car ride, I would use the box Birdygirl mentioned, the one from the pet shop. If he is in a cage, he may get spooked in the car which can be stressful.
My birds (tiel and budgies) are used to the car and they are fine in a small carry cage. Marcel has a small animal carrier he loves to go visiting in.
Hamlit might feel safe and secure in the small cardboard box.
Don't forget to give him my kiss.

Sounds strange, but I travel fairly regularly with my lovebird. The woman at the pet store I visited suggested using a reptile terrarium. If you've never seen one, it's a clear plastic case, about the size of a lunch box (or larger, depending on how large an animal you're moving). The lid allows for ventilation. I lay down newspapers so he doesn't slide all over the place, and add juicy fruits like oranges and grapes so he doesn't get dehydrated on long trips. Usually, I leave the carrier in my lap, and hold the container with one hand; he curls up inside the terrarium "against" my palm.

Blueiss,
The idea of putting juicy fruits in the carrier for long trips is great! Usually, when I put in a water dish, it is all over the carrier. I will use the fruits and water when I take a lengthy trip with my birds.
Thanks for the idea.

Another idea would just be to put a blanket over his cage, which is usually what I do with my birds. That way they have the familiarity of their cage, yet can't get so overwhelmed with everything. Most of my birds are now used to car rides and enjoy looking out the window as we drive, but if Hamlit isn't used to car rides, that could be a bit frightening.

The last time I used a pet carrier for Tweety was last year. I used a plastic container that is sold at pet stores to keep hermit crabs in. She screamed and yelled until I took her out and placed her in my shirt pocket, she would not have it any other way.
