Hello, I have a now 11-12wk old pure bred boxer puppy. Her name is Roxie and I love her very much, so much that I worry all the time about her. When I picked her up from the breeder, on the recommendation of the vet I changed her food from puppy pedigree to puppy iam's because her "waste" was not and not getting anything close to solid on the pedigree. I am happy to report she is now making messes all over the house in a very solid healthy way,,,, hey you win some and you lose some, I accept both. My latest problem is that I brought her back to the vet and she told me that the poop machine is actually underweight, by about 4 lbs! Thats a lot considering she only weighs 13. I set food out for her 3 times a day,, she will eat a couple then walk away and start playing. If I leave it out for her all day,, she will eat maybe 2-3 cups total and thats it....... I can count her ribs! The vet says she is totally healthy but needs more weight on her. I dont know what to do. When she does eat a lot or even drink fast she throws up... any suggestions for my little poop machine?

Hi, congrats on your new pup. The first thing I would do is change foods again. Iams is not a good quality food. I think there are some other posts with regard to it here on the site.
Check out some of the other posts, and do some online research, to find a better food for your pup. That's the first thing I would do.
Good luck.

I agree. A better quality food will more than likely take care of the problem.

I am assuming the puppy was already wormed ... if not that could be the first issue
Free feeding isn't a good idea IMO
Get the pup on a schedule and some better quality food
Also think about adding a little fish oil
There is a great site on nutrition called b-naturals
http://b-naturals.com/default.php
also a yahoo group called
K9 nutrition you may want to check into
When you get a chance do a search on forum for my posts on foods: it may also help
If the pup is sickly thin you may want to think of trying Satin Balls

Have you thought about feeding her less food more often? If you leave her wanting more, she'll eat the next time you feed her as well, and you wont have the problem of her throwing up.
I know if I was faced with a huge meal 3 times a day, I wouldn't want to eat it all.

I agree with all the posters above. I would also like to point out that every pup is different. Roxie might be of a normal weight...even though the weight is not 'average' for her age. I suggest you to ...just let her get settled...get used to her feeding schedule and new food. She is growing and puppies do not always put on fat easily...compared to an adult dog.
So I would suggest you to relax and enjoy your pup!!
