I am writing on behalf of my mom's mini dach. She has been licking for the past year non stop. It is mainly the bottom of her tail (rear end) and under her legs. All the hair is gone and the skin looks like elephant skin.

She has tried everything. Pills, creams, baths and allergy free dog food. Nothing has helped.

Does anyone have any idea or suggestions? Could she be licking due to an anexity issue or such?

If it's not a food allergy, it's most likely just boredom. Tell your mom to keep her occupied, and give her something to work at. Teach her more tricks, give her a job, etc. It should help :) In the mean time, maybe think about getting her an Elizabethan collar (e-collar). That will make it so she can't lick it anymore.

When you say it looks like elephant skin, do you mean the exposed area appears tough and blackened? If so, this happened to my Golden. It was a systemic (full body) yeast infection and despite my dislike of Rx drugs, she needed to be put on kytoconizol (spelling?) for 20 days. We also gave her daily baths with Malacetic shampoo for a week, and then every few days for another two weeks. That was last summer. She's been yeast free since then and her skin in that area has returned to a healthy normal texture and color (and no more licking -- poor baby was obsessed, it must have really itched!). Apple Cider Vinegar is good (internal and external as a rinse) for helping to avoid these infections in the first place! Hope this helps. An e-collar sounds like a good idea until the area begins to heal.

I agree, if you have done the allergy testing and ruled out food allergies it sure does sound like a yeast infection.
