How do dogs show you that they love you? I know it sounds stupid, but my dog licks (kisses) my husband all the time and he never licks me. Is that his way of saying, "Yeah, Mom...I know you are the one that feeds me, cleans up after me, buys what I need, takes me outside, etc. but I love Dad more." Or, is it something else? I have to admit that I am a little jealous!:( I spent all summer with our new puppy and my husband gets all the thanks! Please advise!

Ah...my boy does that too! I've read this is either a sign of affection or that my boy considers himself above my husband :p . The fact he's not jumpin' up on me giving kisses is telling me he know his place (i.e he's not the alpha, I am).
My boy does 'give kisses' when I ask him (this is where we just touch our noses together).
Have you done any training w. your pup? This usually increases the bond between you and your dog.

Lots of tail wagging. Always happy to see me. Tons of kisses. And those eyes! I can just tell by the way they look at me. And they know they're loved to!

that doesn't mean ur the alpha, otto san, my husky licks absolutely everyone, me included, and our golden retriever, huskies show submission by lowering their ears around certain people,dogs,etc...., but not licking you doesnt mean ur the alpha

No, I think that some dogs respect the alpha by not jumping all over them. I've seen dogs go mad over visitors, leaping all over them and knocking them over, but they wouldn't do that to mum, they wait until they're invited for a fuss. But obviously only dogs who know not to jump on the alpha will behave like this.
Although I've only had Rocky a few weeks, I know he sees me as mum now, rather than Mandy who looked after him at work. He doesn't jump on me, or lick me, but he follows me absolutely everywhere, gets up if I get up, and wags his tail everytime I look at him :) he's just so sweet...
Shadow will lick absolutely anybody but me. However, I am not allowed to go from one room of the house to another without her. She is always nearby, and if I need help (i.e., squeal from being tickled) she will tell my husband about it.
She is my constant companion, confidante, and best friend. She never tells me that an outfit makes my butt look big. Much better to have around than my husband.....

My pups do the same thing, but I think it's because my husband acts differently around them than I do, I give them soft petting and I'm quite, he's all crazy and loud and it gets them all crazy too, so they get their butts shakin and tails going, and licking and jumpin. I think the dogs just know our personalities.
