so i noticed my rabbit, dior, has lost a few pounds
ever since i got him ( christmas 05 ), i fed him pellets and timothy hay as a regular diet
then i read somewhere that vegtables and hay should be their regular diet
so i havent given him pellets in a few weeks
i give him lettuce, carrots, timothy hay, and alfalfa cookies
then today, just before, he sat on my lap and he was wet
i looked on the floor and saw a clear puddle of what i thought was water
it wasnt there before, and since dior was out running around
i thought maybe he spilled something, but there was nothing to be spilt
so i smelt the puddle ( yukky ) and it smelled like pee
usually his pee is a yellow
he has been acting VERY friendly which is very strange
he seems to be acting more like a dog, he follows me everywhere and answers to his name ( something he has never done )
he also looks much smaller and i can feel his spine when i pet him
i feel like he is sick or something so i want to take him to a vet
i never brought him to one b/c the pet store told me it wasnt necessary
how do i get started on doing that?? how much does it cost, etc?
u can answer on here or email me - vfz123@yahoo.com

thanks :)

How old is your rabbit??? the reason the petstore told you it wasnt nessary to take him to the vet is because rabbits stay inside and they dont need shots for like rabies or anything like that. But if your rabbit is sick then you need to take him to the vet and see what they can do before it gets worse. Im not sure how much it is. maybe around $100 but i dont know. You might need to give him medicine. Sounds like he isnt feeling good. Dont ever give your rabbit lettuce they dont really need that. And not to many carrots once in while is fine. I give my rabbit pellets and timothy hay and she is getting a little big just eating that. someone told me that rabbits dont over eat. Clean the entire cage like every other day and take out the old timothy hay and put in new hay every day. Rabbits are suppose to be out of there cage 1 hour a day. But take him to the vet and tell them whats been going on Im sure they will let you know whats wrong.

okay first of all, you actually need to provide pellets (i prefer fiesta rabbit food) timothy hay AND vegetable on a daily basis plus water should be changed every day. if your rabbit has stopped eating as much I would recommend looking at the front teeth for signs of overgrowth if you cant open the rabbits mouth then feel on her/his chin for signs of drooling. if your rabbits pee is clear then thats a possible sign that she/he has been drinking a lot of water lately. its not unusual for a rabbit to feel lonely especially if he/she is a rabbit in a solitary environment that could be the reason that he/she has been following you and being nice. my rabbit (thumper) responds to her name and shes only 4month so theres nothing to worry about there.
no matter what the pet store says you should still have him/her in for a regualr check up and a check up isnt that much its usually about $30 the only thing that may be expensive is the medicene he/she may need so I would first try just a change in diet and if the problem still occurs then take her/him to a vet for a check up.

I'm sorry you were misinformed, but your rabbit can die if not provided with pellets. Pellets give all the necessary vitamins and stuff that a rabbit needs, he is being malnurished and that is why you can feel the spine easily. A rabbit shouldn't have too many veggies, they can have a little bit daily, but should not have only veggies and hay. Pellets can be constantly provided, I've never had a rabbit overeat. Give him pellets and hay and you can give a little bit of veggies every day, not iceburg lettuce though. Clear urine does indicate drinking lots of water, but also all the veggies give him lots of water. I bet it won't be long and your bunny will be a normal weight again if you back off on the veggies and give pellets. If you think he's sick take him to vet, I can't say how much that costs cause it depends on the area. It may not be necessary to take him to the vet unless you really think he's sick.
