Last wednesday had to be the worst day of my lif so far. And I wanted to post here where people understand. When I tell people, some give the the look that says 'its only a rabbit', but they don't understand. I raised her from when she was 8 weeks old, took me 4 months to litter train her, and we had just developed a bedtime ritual in my new apartment where she would cuddle with me for a bit (and if i fell asleep for half an hour she would still be there when i woke up). Anyways.. here is what happened.
Last wednesday, I had to put my bunny down, my baby girl (well not baby, she was almost 3). At 5:30 in the morning I heard her freaking out in her cage and I went to check on her and her eye came out of the socket partially. I had to take her to the emergency clinic across town. Her eye went back in, but it didnt go in properly, and something spooked her at the vet, and her eye almost came all the way out (sorry if TMI) so she essentially lost her sight in that eye. They could have done a surgery to remove her eye, but the xray showed other stuff, like a mass in her abdomen, and her kidneys were different sizes. So even if they did the surgery to remover her eye, they would have had to do other stuff to figure out what else was going on. Bunnies can't deal with too much stress, and this would have been too much stress for her, and too much pain, and I couldn't let her go through that.
Making the decision to have her put down was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Its one thing having your parents take your pet to the vet to have it put down, but to be there and make the decision yourself... omg, I cried so hard while saying good bye I almost threw up. When I came in the vet gave Bella (my bunny) a seditive and pain killers, so she wasn't in pain, or very aware of what was happening. The vet was really nice though, and made a paw print for me in clay to take home. And all this happened before 8am. I felt awful the entire day, didn't eat anything until 7pm, and cried almost the entire day. She was my baby girl and I'll miss her so much. I still have trouble saying her name without tears coming.

I just had to get this off my chest.
