Today I woke up and Pepe, my best little buddy in the world was gone. She was at the end of the bed. I think her little body couldn't take the constant maintainece of feather plucking any more. To have to produce all of those feathers all day everyday finally took its toll. I urge everyone with bird to not let your bird sleep with them. I thought at first that I suffocated her but she showed no signs of it. It was just her time. She was almost nine years old which is young for a domestic quaker parrot. When we got her she was sickly. It took 6 months for her to be weaned and she had always been a "runt". She was moved, hurricanized, sat on, stepped on, but always loved. As someone said about their tiel not too long ago-she was a "tank". I was in constant fear of her dying and feel like I let her down. I couldn't save her from herself-plucking. As some of you all know our dog Mellie died two weeks ago. Our lives are upside down. I can't express the loss that I feel but am glad to have you all. Eager eyes. I don't want to depress you all but it helps me too write about her. My bird and my pup were my life and I will forever miss them. Thanks for reading this and sharing my pain. Laura

Laura, I am so sorry to read of your losses. Losing one pet is hard, but two in such a short time is traumatic. You & yours will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you all for your support. It is too hard to come back and read about everyones pets and my screen name is killing me since it was one of Peps' nicknames. I won't be able to come back for a while. To everyone who has read this I want to say thanks again. Hopefully I can get over it. I am so upset I can't function. I just hope she is happy and in a better place with a full body of feathers riding on Mellies back having fun. Love ya all. Laura

I am sorry to hear that you will not be around for a while Laura, but can understand. Maybe in the future you could just register with a different username. I wish you well and hope you will visit when you feel up to it.

Hey guys, well it has only been a couple of days but seems like a long time to me. I only have my guinea pig left as a pet unless you count my husband. They both look at me scared like "am I next". Just jokin'. I emailed my Dad and all he said was that guinea better watch her step. He is a joker but a softie. When our beagle/bassett hound died at 18 (my Mom says 16) he cried and cried. I can't leave Petlovers. I thought at 2 days ago I couldn't breath but with the help and thoughts of good hope from you all I have been able to ease my grief. Death doesn't have to be a bad thing. My Pepe was a plucker so therefore now she is not suffering from whatever the heck was making her do it. She plucked her tail too.
Now I want just one more Parrot. Just one.:)
Love all you petlovers
