Hi,
I havent been on this site in awhile to be honest,
but recently something happened that really upset me, and no one seems to understand my sadness the way I know the people on this site would-

On Saturday there was a wedding at my next-door neighbor's house.
One of the bridesmaids who is friends with my other neighbors stayed with them (2 doors down)and they brought their dog along (retriever-border collie mix named Karma).

Anyway, we keep the rabbit (Bon-Bon) and guinea pig's (piggy) cage outside. The next morning, I went outside with my dogs to let them do their business (we don't have a fence, so I go with them)

I found the cage open, Piggy dead about 3 feet away (looked like it had been shaken to death) and Bon-Bon no where in sight.

I just found out last night (Monday night) that the neighbor told my dad that they found the dead rabbit in their yard, and their dog looks to have killed it.

By then the owners were gone, but they had left me a note, offering to replace the rabbit (they dont know the dog also killed my guinea pig)

They said in the note that their dog, Karma had "recently discovered bunnies out in the country and likes to catch them".
If they knew the dog is capable of killing small animals, why would they just let it run loose through peoples' yards?
Normally we (our neighbors and us)don't mind the dogs coming into our yards, but thats different..

I'm just so sad and angry and I don't know exactly who I'm angry at or if I have the right to be angry....and I feel like there's nothing I can do about it...I don't want them to buy me a new bunny!! It's not the same and it won't take away the fact that their dog murdered Bon-Bon and Piggy.

I keep wondering if they suffered lots, and about how afraid they must have been.

I dont know what to do.

That is so sad and I am so sorry that this happened. This is the place where people will understand -- because we know that a pet is a member of the family. When people react like this you really have to feel sorry for them because they have never had the wonderful experience of having a pet that loved them so much that they could not help but love it in return and before they knew it the pet was a family member. Just think of what they have missed, will continue to miss and the love and joy they will never know. It is their loss and they don't even know it.

Try not to think about what they felt at the end; it will do yourself no good.

I'm sorry that happened to you. There is a reason why most places have leash laws; any animal can become a killer no matter the breed or size.

Just remember that the bunny and guinea pig knew you loved them.

My thoughts are with you.
