I searched this topic in past threads but came up with no help so I am hoping to try again for assistance..

I have 1 goldfish (Originally got 3 about 1 1/2 years ago..1 died within 3 months and another died 1 month ago) The fish I have left is fat (about the size of my palm!) and in a 50 gallon all to himself. He eats well, swims around and seems to be ok being alone... Should I get another for his company???I dont want to get another and find out they fight..I am not a huge fish-knowledgable person..any advice from fish experts?? ;)

How is your goldfish proportioned? Is it overly round link a ball? Are the scales protruding? Sometimes bacterial hemorrhagic septicemia can creep thru an aquarium, infecting the kidneys causing bloat or dropsey. You also may just have an overfed or poorly fed fish. A good pellet food such as Hikari or Sanyu is what i would recommend. A flake can be supplemented (Spirulina flake is good for this), bur should not be the staple. Also brine shrimp is a natural laxative for goldfish and makes an excellent supplement. Keep a healthy calcium level for proper body function (80 ppm KH or more is good).

alot of it depends on the type of goldfish.

a common feederfish/comet/koi shouldn't be fat, that could be a problem.

Fancy types like bubbleeyes,lionheads,etc.... it isn't uncommon to see these goldfish being huge.

anyway, really 50 gallons isn't enough for one adult goldfish so i wouldn't get another.

ok, thanks for the responses..I guess as long as he (i assume it is a he? lol ) doesnt mind being the only fishy than he can have the place to himself
