I know there's a few of you out there! I just heard about this tip yesterday from a "ferret lady" and thought I'd pass it on. Instead of bathing your ferrets, which messes with the natural oils/smells and only makes them worse, you can get a box and fill it with about 10 lbs. of wild rice. Not only will it let them give their digging instincts some fun, but the rice will absorb the odors. You only need to change the rice twice a year. Also, you can hide treats and toys in it for them to find!

That sounds like a great idea. But my inquisitive personality forces me to ask questions, please don't mind it :D Is it okay for them to ingest the rice? What if they poo or pee in it, do you still only change it twice a year?

:D Thanks,
Jennifer

Thanks for that tip, Jenny. I can just imagine George in 10 lbs of rice -- he would go wild! I'm sure he would love it. I'm already imagining a deep rubbermaid container full of rice for George...

The questions that Jennifer asked are very good questions, and would also like to know the answers. :D

Answers, answers....let's see... The lady who I heard that from (who was told it by a vet) has her ferrets litter trained, so they only poop/pee in their litter box and not in the rice. If they aren't trained, then of course you'd need to change it more often! lol As far as ingesting rice, probably a little bit is fine but I doubt they'd eat it, doesn't seem like hard, uncooked rice would suit their tastebuds (?). Here's this ladie's website : www.ferrethop.com Maybe it will answer your questions, or you can e-mail her. Let us know how George enjoys it Amanda if you try it out. :)
