I rescued two westie pups in January after caring for my 16 year old westie up to the day we had to put him down. In an attempt to repair our broken hearts I ended up with TWO dogs and need to keep costs down. My vet wants me to bring the dogs in for everything and that can be quite expensive. I just had Maddie in to be spayed and at that time she had an enlarged nipple (she went into heat one time before her surgery). My thinking is that she wouldn't be permitted to have the surgery if the nipple were a problem. There was no mention of the nipple but two months later it has not gone away. I called the vet and they want me to bring her back and everytime I am there she has a $200.00 bill. Is this something anyone has ever heard of can it be treated at home. I beleive it is either hormone related or an irritation or infection. When my kids are sick we always wait it out and things usually work themselves out but with dogs you have to run right in for every little thing and that is really starting to add up??? I have treated it with hydrocortizone and it has taken the red out but it is still enlarged.
