Hi. I have a problem with my Hamster. i'm hoping to god someone out there can give me some advice....i have a year and a half year old teddy bear hamster. the other day i was cutting some excess fur off of his back because there was a knot in it and he yelped...i thought i might have snipped him with the scissors but there was no bleeding or cuts ANYWHERE. he went on happy but yesterday night i noticed one of his back legs was bruised bad and had the remnants of crusty blood on it...however there was no blood in the cage and my hamster doesn't favor his leg, yelp when i pick him up or do anything that sugests it's causing him pain. tonight however it is worse...the leg is swollen up...but the hamster still does not seem to mind it...we have no vet in the area that deals with small animals so i'm on my own here...do you think i could have cut him with the scissors by accident? if so i feel terribly bad.....do anyone have any ideas of things that i could do for him? any creams? something like that? would the people from the pet shop i bought him from be able to tell me anything do you think? i am very very upset.................also the other night my hamster fell out of his wheel while running in it...it must have came loose and he fell out...its one of those wheels with the holes in it....i've heard they can hurt hamsters legs and feet if the get caught in them....could that have caused it????? HELP:(

Poor Hammy. I would inspect him a little more and make sure it is his leg. Take his wheel out and keep him warm. Aloe Vera is a natural pain killer and healer if you have some to rub on his leg if not I would put Neosporin on to deter infection. If his leg is broken I am not sure what to do. I would think to try and keep him comfy, warm and try and not let him move around that much for a while. Good luck. I am definately not an expert but have had a teddy bear hamster who was severly burned and lived through it. I hope he is alright. keep us updated.

well, it's been a few days...the hamster's leg swelling seems to be going down. he's more active than ever and still doesn't mind me touching his leg or picking him up or anything. he's eating as much as usual and drinking his normal intake of water. i've been giving him some extra treats because he's hurt and i've added some blanket fluff to his bed to keep him cozy and warm. he doesn't seem to be getting worse...maybe he is healing i hope!

I am glad to hear that. Sounds like he will be as good as new.
