72g freshwater, temp 75, ph 7.0

When I came home from work I found one of my platies dead at the bottom of the tank. They seemed fine about 3 hours ago when I gave them their lunch. After taking her out of the tank, I checked her over to see if I could see anything wrong with her. There seemed nothing obvious to me. I've had her for about 6 or 7 months now, the same with the rest of my fish.
I haven't add any new fish or anything. I've checked all the water test, and everything is normal. The only think I've added are some plant bulbs I got from walmart a few weeks ago. Could they kill the fish? I'm just worried I'm missing something, I want to fix it if there is something wrong.
Any ideas?

another platie has her 'fin' clamped down to her, i think she is dying

edit=same fish swims funny, and then stays on the bottom

I changed about 1/4 of the water, and one of the filters

all other fish seem to be doing fine, although I think I have an extra fish? must have been born and I just never noticed because they are never all out of hiding at the same time. I also removed all the bulb plants from the tank just in case

Does the fish look a little paler than ususal?

some of the fish look paler, it seems to be mostly the platies that are having a hard time, only one of the female swordtails are acting funny. The dannos are fine, they think the green water is fun.. I took some samples to the fish store, and they had me get Furazone-Green to treat the tank for 5 days. I haven't lost any more, and I hope I will not.

I meant the fish on the ground.

no, not that I can see (she keeps hiding, not really moving much at all)

in situations like that, i would increase my water changes from once a week to every 5 days.

i dont usually suggest a 10 % water change, not really enough. since u have a 70 gallon tank, u can push more on a water change. 30 %.

add some salt, and raise the temp.

Clamped fins can also be a first sign of "ich" or velvet, watch for small white spots or a white/gray haze on the fins.
Increase water changes as stated above by Betachris.
What type of filters do you have? and how many?
"Medicated Wonder Shells" are great for the symptoms you described as they also improve your KH, which is important for platties.

hey cst,

how would u treat ick/velet.

i dont know whats up with my fish system but this summer  i have lost more fish than in 2 years. alot of my fishes have been getting paracites like ick and velet, and the treatments aren't working.... already had about 5 tanks crash.

Well if ick/velvet were to be one of the problems, the Furazone-Green I got treats that as well. the directions advise of doing a partial water change every day due to having to take the carbon out of the filters while treating. I have an Emperor 400 as my filter. Right now the carbon filters are out, and in its place I just have some aquarium floss in it to at least catch some of the junk.

I prefer either "Quick Cure", "Medicated Wonder Shells" (especially for prevention), and the Furazone-Green mentioned does work for velvet and ich, but that is not its primary purpose.
I also run UV Sterilizers on most of my customers more important aquariums. They help with prevention and the Redox Potential which in turn helps with prevention also.
But being an experienced fish keeper yourself, sometimes you just have runs of bad luck too.

Quick cure has only failed me once, and I ended up loosing my very best CT female betta

A betta breeder recomended I use Velvet Gaurd and ended up giving me a container of it..I havent had to use it tyet though so i'm not sure how it works...

Furasan or whatever its called is the best med i have ever used, and has worked for anyhting I tried it on..
