Is salt ok or not? I read some sites that say go for it, it's good for fish, and other sites say NO! Salt is bad! Although there seems to be more people that like salt than those that don't. Majority rules, right? :)
I have 2 platies and 3 cherry barbs. Will some aquarium salt be beneficial at all? If so, what is the best way to add it? Should I dissolve it in water first and then pour it in, or just throw the salt bits right in the tank? How much for a 10 gal?

aquarium salt isn't good for fishes that are scaleless. like clown loaches.
for other fishes with scales, salt is ok. i use it after everyh water change.
but u can also use it to treat paraicites on freshwater fish

Do you dissolve it first, or just drop it in? I'm afraid my fish will try to eat it if I just plop it in there. I got pond salt, I think someone on one of the other threads said that would be ok. It was all they had at the lfs. Is that in bigger pieces than actual aquarium salt?
Thank you Bettachris and BirdLuver288 for your great info!

i just add the salt to the tank.
it wont make a real difference if they try and eat it.
