Hi,
Heera has recently learned new tricks. She does 'Hi5' and 'shake paw'. Since then, I have her paws landing over my face, chest, tummy, hands, and legs. She is around 110lbs so you can imagine...it is like a punch.

I have scratches from her VERY rough paws all over my hands, legs and face. These scratches literally draw blood. Is there anyway to make Heera's paws soft? Our other dog, Brinkley has relatively soft paws. I was wondering if their paws get rough due to dryness or carpet...or any other household reason. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I notice with our dogs the more they run on grass, the softer their pads get. We have a large fenced in yard so they run and play several times a day. During the winter or rain (when they can't play as much outside) their pads are hard and will scratch.

When we trim nails we also smooth them down with a fine sanding sponge (the dremel is VERY SCARY!). Any rough areas on foot pads also get buffed out. Mani-pedi anyone?

Thanks for the replies rstowe & Evey!! I'll try to give her pedicure...;) . I 'll get few more punching blows and scratches...lol. But hey, I've toughened up too...to take it all...

My GS Rocky is a very active dog runs all the time and also goes to training constantly on different types of ground from mulch to cement. There is a product that you can buy to soften their paws you could probably get it at your local Target. It’s dog save and made of Shea butter.
