Can someone recommend a couple of easy to care for plants for my 10 gal. tank? The room where I have the tank doesn't get a whole ton of light. It has a big window, but it's under an awning, so there isn't much in the way of sunlight going on in here. Can a plant live off of flourescent lighting? Of so, how much should one get in a day? Does a lot of light stress the fish out? I have 2 platies and 3 cherry barbs.

java moss, and those walmart bylbs would work great, the bulbs grow like crazy and eventually look like a little forest, it will also save some fry, as will the java moss

are you looking to create a nice looking tank like one with about 75-100 usd worth of plants to make it look amazing? or are you just looking to get a few plants to make your tank run better?

anyway, if you are looking for easy plants here are a few: for a 10 gallon.
java moss(will get stuck in the filter so it is important to clean the filter every week)
Jave fern- grows about 6-7 inches, comes in many varities. easy.
Frontiltalis-like java moss, brownish plant, easy, hard to find.
amazon swordplants- easy, might need more light, and grow to large.

these are my favorites, might be impossible to find at a lfs, but can get online.

anabuis nana- rather expensive, but worth it. i cant talk about it enough.

i dont use alot of light in my tanks, nothing special like co2, but these plants live for years, easy, and are a hard leaf plant, so fish dont eat it.

I was at Petco looking at their plants and I wasn't very impressed with what they had, so I'll have to wait until I have a chance to go to the "sort of local" fish store that's about 45 min away. They're really great and have a lot of stuff, so hopefully they will have one of the javas or maybe even the Anubias nana - that looks really pretty!
I'm just looking for something to help my tank run a bit better at this point. I need all the help I can get!

also, ask around at your LFS, be sure to ask how tall they get, gow wide, and what type of lighting *low, med, high light* for your first plants I would try low light..I dont use Co2 either, never have, and my plants are rather green:p ..also, i get plants from my local lake, free, look awesome, ect..and if you see any plants for SALE at a petstore that are expensive, that you have seen in the local waterways, I ouldent buy it, I have seen a few of the plants I own sold for big bucks at LFS..and I get them for free every weekend..if i learn how to ship plants, I could maybe even ship you some, if you pay shipping:)
