I am confused

how many airstones do i need for my 55 gal tank?
do i need a water filter or is it the same as a filter?
does my filter need a air pump?
do my airstones need a air pump?
so i also need a water pump?

im going to have tetra's and mosquitofish, and maybe a suckermouth.

what do i need? how much are they?

ok short answers are,

You need an air pump(which you have), that attaches to an air tube, which in turn is attached to a air stone. This will make bubbles in your tank. called airation. This is used by fishes to breathe. You will only need one air stone and pump.

Water pumps and filters are basically the same thing. You need on of these to help clean the water from fish waste and extra foods etc...

Only a sponge filter will need an air pump, but a HOB(hang on back) filter like the one you showed me doesn't need an air pump.


check list:
Air pump,
Air tube,
Air Stone,
HOB filter(made for 50 gallons or +)
Filter media(AKA, what goes inside the filter, like a bag of carbon, ammonia chips, filter fiber)

for a success ful tank, you will need both a filter and an air system.
