When I first got my dwarf hamster, I picked out a basic looking cage like this one.

The only problem is, I'm constantly thinking "The poor thing must be SO bored!" I know with the plastic cages, you can buy things to clip on, but this one has no connector products! What can I buy, or make that would work on this kind of wire caging to help him be less bored!?

Also, what kinds of toys do you make for your little hamster "city" ?

THANKS!

Do you have a ball for him to run in on the floor? That was my old hammie's favorite thing to do when I had him was to roll around the floor every nightwhile I watched TV..it was funny to watch the cats follow him from room to room trying to figure out what he was doing!:D

Yes, I do have a hamster ball for him to run in, but that only lasts so long! Thanks anyways. I was more wondering what kind of things I could put in the cage, and how to get them to connect to the sides, maybe from someone who had the same type of cage? Thanks though :D

You can get pieces of pvc pipe and drill small holes in them and use cable ties to fasten them to the side of the cage. Also, you can hang small bird toys, the kind with chewable wooden parts, from the top of the cage, making sure they are low enough for your hamster to get to. Bird ladders, either hanging or leaning against the side work well, too. You can put treats inside toilet paper tubes and fold the ends down really well and wrap with some paper towels so he has to work at getting to the treats. Take some long shredded pieces of paper towels and weave them through the cage bars. This will keep him occupied with taking them out to make his bed. The same goes for pieces of yarn.

PVC pipes are this:

the 2 white items in the picture, PVC pipe is what it is lol, its pipes make out of PVC:p

you can find it at hard ware stores, or probably even walmart..

and try to make shelves, I had a similar problem with my rat cage, only its pretty big lol..but they just looked soo bored, so I got out some C shaped PVC pipes for tunnels, made shelves took simple small card board boxes and cut small doors in them, and stacked 2 on top of eachother, I used old towels, and those soft scarves...I even trhew in a tennis ball, which was a huge hit lol, and some very small stuft animals..be creative!

Well, when I had my hamster, I bought this set called a "Puzzle Playground", made by Crittertrail. It has 26 little square and triangle plastic puzzle pieces that you can put together and build little houses for your hamster to play or sleep in. When your hamster gets bored of the first house, you can take the house apart and build a different one. The pieces are small enough that you can fit the house in your hamsters cage. You can even buy another set to build bigger and better houses. I bought my set at Petsmart, and it only cost about $5. Hope this helps!

A toy my hamster loves is actually a bird toy. One of those mirrors with the bell on the bottom. He loves ringing the bell and staring at the mirror.
