does this make sense. from the new fishkeepers veiw.

i dont want to spend alot of money on a big tank so i get a tank under 10 gallons(which usually go for 10 bucks) I end up getting either : A) a goldfish b/c they are cheap, B) alot of community fish, C) and oscar ...(enough said)

now, since they dont want to pay, they dont get a filter or air pump etc.... and even put the fish in a bowl. And a few days later they want to know why the fish die. And EVEN worest, they go and get more fish to try again.

now from the new fishkeepers veiw, does this make sense at all. Why dont they bother to research alittle, as fishkeeping isn't add water and fish.

The fish cycle is-i dont do research, i just buy the bare mini b/c i dont know if the fish will make it, the fish end up dieing b/c of stupid stuff, i try again and again, ----Point being, that if you would have dont research, it would cost you far less if you did the right way than wasting your money on fishes that keep dieing.

o and breeding: i know personally b4 i bred bettas i spent about 3-6 months on researching betta breeding. i love how new fishkeepers get a fish and want ot breed it right away, mean while they either cant tell me what type of fish it is, how any info on how they breed.

point for all of my complaining is please please please do some research, you would do research for a dog or cat, so why not for fish.

I have noticed that most people do NO research before they get ANY animal. Its definatly more for animals other than cats and dogs. Unfortunatly its pretty doubtful that its going to change.

I used to work at Petsmart and it was unbelievably frustraiting. A lot of people don't care for the well being of thier pet, they just want it because its cute, etc. They don't want to dish out the money it takes to take care of a $5 dollar pet because its only five dollars. It makes me sick.

katie, here is another thing today that i saw.

this girl buys 3 predator fish, she has no clue on what they are or how to care for them. Either a pirhana or a fresh water barracuda. All of this speaks for itself....

Why dont new fishkeepers bother to do research on the fishes they buy. I know b4 i get any new fish i do research, i spent the last 11 years or so everyday researching, learning about fish and now know most of everything about every fish in the fresh water aquaria.

I know that her predator fish are going to end up killing eachother probably due to she stuffing all 3 of them in a 10 gallon tank.

I am not sure if i said this in my first post but, The fish are going to die and they are going to spend money and money on new fish, but all of this could be avoided if you do your research instead of being implussive. And than when they are about to give up they come asking people like us.....

i know that i am more than willing to help people who want to learn and help not only themelves but the fish, as thats what i really care about. I would love to have my mailbox full every week with PMs of fish questions. I am more than happy to spend half my night just typing in on-going threads to help someone. So Just Ask.

fish get ick when their immune system is on the fritz, like when a major temp change takes place, it weakens the fish phisicly, like say when you are in warm water, then are dumped into cold, you become exhausted from shivering, and you can also become weak when you go from an air conditioned house, to 90F outside, but ick is very cureable with meds, or with a slow temp rise, eventually they all just die..

i dont mean to sounds mean, but it gets frustrating to experienced fish keepers when lack of care is given and is so simple to attain.

but anyway, ick are little parasites that get on a fish when they are stress out or there slime coat is low. Ick is farily common and at your lfs there are plenty of meds for it. U really dont kill ick i believe, if you increase the water temp, the life cycle of the parasite will go by faster and the ick will disappear. Also adding aquarium salt is important b/c most freshwwater parasites cant live with salt in the water.

see thats what i like, people asking questions trying to help there fish.

anyway katie if it was this thread or not, the system i use for baitfish/feeders is i add them into 50 gallon barrels or plastic trash cans with two powerful internal filters running. and the problem is when one dies, i cant see it do to the amount of fishes and hte filter in the tank. so more end up dieing so it build up. i really need to move them into tank systems.

yikes..why not try and get those 65 gallon drums? they come in white, and are drillable for drainage at the bottom, which would suck out any deadies....but, whats a few more tanks lol:D

Your betta died because you over fed him, the ick turned to deadly ammonia "that's what the cloudy ick was on the rocks" and he got it in his system and died =\

I agree, Alot of people get animals before researching, being it fish, reptile, cat, dog etc... Its sad but true. One thing i AM thankfull for is that some of them WILL ask questions. tis worse when they dont! Some will be stubborn(oh well the petshop told !) , alot of people have too much faith in petshops where most pershop people are morons! thats my little rant anyways lol

what also gets to me, is when their are fake betta know it alls, i just recently saw someone trying to pass off betta info on how bad bowls and vases are, and that this is a new story..... this story has been going around for years and of course he just copied it. and that info was wrong anyway. and what was funny was, if he was a betta expert how come he didnt know where bettas came from, ponds or rivers.... please spare me of the stupidness.
