Is there a certain color of parakeet or a certain type that would be better than others?

Do you mean a budgie or parakeets? There are alot of different types of parakeets. Look here for some of them http://www.centralpets.com/pages/birds/parrots.html
I don't think a certain colored budgie would be better than the other. All the same just with different clothes (or feathers LOL) on. ;) Of course each one has their own personality though.

Yes, Rachel has worded that very clearly. Maybe personalities are different but Budgies (Parrakeets) all have the same genetics.
