My neighbors were evicted and left about 6 cats behind to fend for themselves. I am trying to find a cat rescue near Newton or Hickory, North Carolina. I don't want to call the city animal "shelter" because that will certainly be a death sentence. I have been feeding them at their house, but when somebody else rents that property, they probably won't want me to feed the cats in their yard. The people that lived there fed them and pet them, but I can't get near them because I have been shooing them away from my house. I have 4 indoor cats of my own and these other cats have had no shots and even though mine have been vaccinated, I still don't want them around my babies. If you guys know of a rescue in your area, maybe they could tell you about one near me. Any help will be appreciated. I'm afraid when the landlord of that property finds out all those cats are there, he will call animal control.

Do a search on this site:
http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi
From what I can see there is a no-kill humane society in Hickory. I don't see any listings for the Newton area but I do see several other shelters/rescue groups with the area code 828 so maybe you can find some others not too far from you.

Sorry, the link I posted doe'snt seem to work. Try going to www.petfinder.com and then click on "Shelter & Rescue Groups" at the very top of the page. This will take you to a page where you can select your state and a list of several animal shelters/rescue groups will come up for that state. Good luck.

UGH!... it makes me sick when people up and leave their animals.
Here are a few sites in North Carolina that might be able to help, even if they're not in your area, sometimes they are able to help and transport themselves... hope this helps and good luck to you.

Here is the link to the "no-kill" shelter in Hickory. You might try them, but I tend to not trust shelters from past experience.. sorry, just not a trusting soul ... but maybe they can help if the situation gets to desperate.
