i have about 6 pairs of convict cichlids. My main pair lays eggs about every 19-21 days. And today my female laid another clutch of eggs. i took out the babies from the babies before this. 5 lovely convict babies. This new batch of eggs looks much more healthier and more in numbers. about 120-180 eggs. Anyway just wanted to let you know that their are new additions to my fish stock.:)

And even more good news. My second pair,

yea, but lfs wont pay that much for convict. i think around me .25 per//fish.
i would rather grow 'em til they pair up as sell breeders.

I had the same thought a while back Chris, I wish convicts weren't such mega parents. I sold 5 breeding pairs, 6 almost adults and 2 that were about 6 months old and only got $12 for my troubles. It was rather dissapointing. :(

yea, but for new fishkeepers who are dieing to get something to breed, they will pay probably about 20 usd for a pair of convicts.
any way, i love convicts, they have a good personality, but unfort. they have an unfair rep.

Not very fair is it...
I asked the main guy in the fish department how much my best looking pair sold for. He wouldn't tell me exactly how much but he said it was more than $50. Ugh.

aww, that sucks..
same problem here though with bettas, from that DTxCT spawn, only 2 fry are left, thank god they are free swimming today so i could remove the male, his first spawn, he ate the eggs, and this time he almost scarfed them all, then a few hatched, then he almost ate all them...I would beat him if he were mine lol..and if he wasnt a great looking DT..grr genetics lol

I Have A Quick Question, Our Convicts Just Layed Eggs And Just Yesterday Mom And Dad Brought Everyone Out For Their First Outing. I Can't Even Count How Many Babies Are There, But Its Quite A Few. My Question Is, Do We Have To Seperate Them From The Rest Of The Occupants Of The Tank?

breeding shouldn't really be done in a community tank, only because no fish has anything gain, b/c the tankmates will get picked on by the guarding parents and it will drive the parents crazy.
so i would remove the other fish.
the parents will control a large area and attack anything that might attack there young.

Just To Let You Know We Just Got The Convicts About 2 Weeks Ago. The Minute They Moved In They Kicked Our Irredescent Shark Out Of His Home In Our Castle And Set Up Shop. Within A Few Days We Noticed The Eggs In The Castle. Their Taking Care Of The Babies And Once They Are Big Enough We Will Move The Convicts To A New Tank.
We Had Convicts Years Ago That Kept Multiplying And We Finally Cut A Deal With A Lfs And We Got The Food And Supplies For Free.

what sized tank are u talking about.
convicts should have 30 gallons to there selves, and an irridenscent shark needs at least 300 gallons. i had one for 9 years and ended up growing 31 inches.
