Hi all! I'm new here due to the fact that I'm a new puppy owner! I have had my beautiful, gentle, sweet, smart (?) male Cavalier Spaniel for 6 weeks now, making him 4 1/2 months old. I have had dogs before, but this is a new behavior for me.
Feces eating!
He often, after doing his important job, turns to sniff and then lick at it once or twice, but yesterday he was out there for awhile chewing away at "something", so I called him in and he happily brought it up to the door thinking, "I'll just bring it on in and finish it inside"! Aaahhh.....NO! Is this some kind of frozen treat to him? What's up with this?

Hey, sorry about our luck!
How do you like your ShihTzu? After researching dog breeds, that was a very close choice for me too! They are just so attractive I think!

Our housetraining is finally coming around (after 6 weeks!). He will at least give me a signal now, which is to stand and stare at me until I notice, then ask "do you need to go outside", then he wags his tail maddly and runs to the door. If I don't notice him staring, that's my tough luck! If I'm sitting here, where by back faces the door, I am trained to listen for the tinkling of his ID tag to notice he got up from a warm nap in front of the heating vent, that is behind me too! I'm actually considering moving the furnature for him!:D
I've never had a dog take this long to train, but I've never had a toy or small dog, and I've heard they are a bit harder.

Hi!
Your dog will eventually get over eating his own poop. My pug did that for the longest time! at the time he was eating Iams soft food for puppies. When he hit six months we started to give him hard food for puppies and after that he didn't eat his poop anymore. And if your dog does try to scoop it up, point to the mess and say "no"...keep doing it. He will eventually get that eating his poopie is a no-no. It worked for us! so i wish u luck! i know exactly how nasty it is! hehehe....

try spraying some of that bitter apple spray (found in just about any pet store) on any poop you see or that you might think she'll go for...make sure she doesn't see you spray the poop. if that doesn't work (some dogs like the taste..our dog loves bitter apple spray), try tabasco. after you put tabasco or the apple spray on poop and she goes for it, she'll soon associate icky, bad taste with poop and will no longer even desire to eat it.
don't worry, it's not so uncommon. our puppy used to like to eat our cat feces! Ewww! :eek:make sure she doesn't see you spray the poop
