Fishes that are way to large for most home aquariums are often referred to as tankbusters. These fishes may be small at a local fish store and often tempting to buy for their looks but predators and tankbusters are best not getting.
Common Tankbusters:
Irridescent Sharks,
Bala, Silver, Tri-color sharks,
Clown knifes,
Black Ghost Knifes,
Apollo Sharks,
Goldfish,
Plecos,
High Fin Loaches,
Red Bellied Pacus,
Red-Tailed Catfish,
Tinfoil Barbs,
Oscars,
Arowanas,
Bichir & Polypterus
etc.
All of these fishes may start out cool, cute, and nice looking, but before you know it given they have enough gallons these fishes get huge. While they dont tend to overall that aggressive, still the shear potiental size must be considered when stocking.
If You plan on getting a tank for tankbusters, it is important to get a tank that is over 125 gallons(generally) and it would be a good idea to look into canister filters. It is important to remember to provide enough room for each fish to get enough room for its territory.
