Hi there. I have 2 budgies, that I purchased about one and half months apart. My first one, Benson, seems healthy and happy. Sings, will fly around, etc. The second one, Bailey, I'm concerned about.
In March, she fell out of her cage and my in-laws dog was here, and I was at work. I came home to find her one the floor, limping and a feather pulled out.
Her leg quickly healed.
She still can not fly, which drives the other one mad. The feathers on her wings seem to be a lot shorter then Benson's.
Lately, I've noticed that the feathers surrounding her lower beak are gone, and it seems to protrude. I thought purhapes she had mites, but there is only one little piece of what appears to be skin, by her upper beak. No white marks, or tunnels, or anything. And her upper beak looks normal. Benson has no marks or anything on him.
Other then that, she is a great bird because no matter how many times a day she will fall out of her cage, (They both get quiet when locked in their cage, and LOVE to sit at the top of the cage together. But when Benson flys, she tries to follow him-and she falls. She can flutter pretty good, so it's usually not hard, nor are they really high up) She also uses the cuttlebone a lot.
Anyways, does this still sound like mites? Or something else? I have to leave my birds with a friend on Sunday for a few weeks because we're going away, and the avaian vet is booked.
Any ideas?
I really appreicate any feedback on this!
