Looking to buy a friendly but smaller species of the cockatoo. I found 3 at a pet store today and I really liked them. They seem very friendly. Met one that could meow like a cat. It was so funny. I own an amazon already so I have some experience with parrots. Does anyone out there own one? Please tell me your experience with them. Convince me that I found the right one to get.
Thanks,
Sandy

As I see it the biggest thing to weigh is if you and quite possibly your neighbors can deal with this -straight out of your description page-:
"This is a noisy and conspicuous cockatoo, both at rest and in flight. The most common call is a distinctive loud screech, ending with a slight upward inflection."
This "screech" can hit the high notes that make you feel like your ears are about to burst. :D
I don't have any one on one experience with these lovely 'toos but I thought I'd throw my two cents in anyhow. :o

Thanks for your reply Jonergin. I'm still looking for owners of lessers and umbrellas.
I want to hear from some of you on your views on the loudness of your parrot and what kind you have.
I have a yellow cheek or red lored amazon and from 1 to 10 I will give her a 4 on loudness being that 10 is the loudest.
Because when I pick my next bird its going to be with me for life.

Please tell me your views on cockatoos. Do they make good pets?

I have a Sulpher Crested Cockatoo named Casper. I love him with all of my heart, he's funny and warm and a pretty good talker, and can pick a lock with the best of them. I've had Casper since 1989 and I've had many years of fun with him, but as far as noise, Casper can break the sound barrier with his screaming. I can hear him a half a block away. My neighbor is always complaining about him but he screams during the day and at night he is pretty quiet. Also he is very possessive. He doesn't like me talking to anybody else but him and if I do he either talks above me or screams. He also gets upset when I'm on the telephone. He likes me to be in the room with him. While I'm there he is a little angel and he plays with his toys and talks softly, but as soon as I walk out of the room WATCH OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you can hear him in the next town. So if you don't like noise Sulpher Crested Cockatoos are not for you.
