What kind of cichlid is it?
It could be a cichlid that prefers to eat at night. If it is then you should feed everyone else and when you turn the lights off at night feed that one.
What are you feeding them? Your cichlid might not be tolerant of your choice of food.

17 african cichlids for a 50 gallon tank is alot, probably causing a raise in nitrites adding to the stress which might be why he isn't eatting.
certainly illness shouldn't be crossed out, so keep an eye out for him.
but, overall you dont have to worry all of the time about fish not eatting, as it is actually a good thing that fish dont eat for a day or to, and also fishes can go for about 1.2 weeks without eatting anything.
def, change the water and make sure ur water parameters are in order.

Besides your nitrites, check your ph and your KH. Both of these tests are important for african cichlid. Depending on the the species of african cichlid, a ph of 7.8 to 9.0 is in order and a KH of 80 ppm is in order.
An aquatic vegetable based food is also more desirable for african cichlids (such as spirulina).

water changes.
it sounds like he is ill, and the other fishes are eatting him:confused: it is possible, but i would move him to a spare 10 gallon as a hospital tank.
also live plants, for hard water, i believe anubias nana will be ok, however they tend to be one of the more expensive plants but are worth it, very hardy and easy to care for.
