Here at my college (vet tech major) we have a female parakeet that I'd like to figure out what her color is called, I'll try to get a pic of her posted, but until then I'll try to describe her. I believe she is called a diluted, but I don't know exactly if that is just what you'd call her color or what. She is mostly white, head, back, wings with a very pretty fawn color kind of scalloped down her wings and on her head. She has a very very pale light almost sky blue on her ches, tail and lower back. She is so pretty. She also has sort of red eyes. I'm hoping after graduation to see if they'll let me adopt her. She also has breeder leg band on that says TF and sideways says TO then 99 so I assume she was born in 99 making her 7 yrs old. I'm not sure how long our college has had her, but her friends died so she's all alone now. By the way she was donated to our school, we didn't buy her, so that doesn't help anything.

Can you help figure out her color? I know its not likely but would anyone happen to know what breeder this band represent? I'm just curious, I don't know that the college will let me adopt her since normally they adopt out "surplus" animals and she is the only parakeet. She's rather tame when she has a wing clipped and will perch on my finger and allow me to pet her. She occasionally will try to fly off or bite sometimes hard, but she definatly could be better if she came home with me. I'd even get her a parakeet friend. Anyway, any help is appreciated.

Edited to add: she also has some pretty purple feathers on her cheeks she looks a lot like http://www.geocities.com/budgie-place/p_colors.html#dilution if you go down the the dilution section the fourth set of pictures and the one on the right. She looks a lot like that, but the purple feathers on the cheeks are bit more noticeable, the blue maybe slightly more diluted. And instead of looking like the grayish scalloping on the wings, head and back its actually fawn, like a cappucino color.

Jerica, from what you describe it sounds like you have either a Fallow or a Lacewing color mutation. What color is her cere (flesh around the nostrils)?

Any luck on the pics? I might be able to narrow it down a little more if I have a pic.

That's cool :) She has a tannish cere, actually right now the right half is brown and left half is tan, never noticed if its always been like that, but that's how it is right now. Anyway, I'll try to pics this afternoon when I'm there again. ;) I actually realized her chest is pretty much white with almost no hint of blue, so even whiter than I had been thinking, her lower back and tail are a very pale blue though. Thanks.

I searched for a pic today and found one that I think is close to what you're describing.

This is a pic of a female Lacewing in blue (which shows as mostly white with light blue in the belly and tail on this bird).

Is this close to your little girly?

Yes that looks almost exactly like her ! :) Thanks. Is a lacewing a very common color in parakeets? Thanks, I'll be going over there in about an hour and will snap a pic so you can actually see her, just because she's so pretty. Thanks again. :)

Lacewing budgies are a rare sex-linked color mutation. They are usually only found at exhibitions.

Looking forward to the pics.:o

Wow, so we have a rare parakeet, that's cool. I'm sorry the stupid camera was not working today, I'll try to get the pics tomorrow.
