hi...just wondering what are u feeding your cats...

I'm feeding them Hill's Science Plan ;)

I've been researching feline diets alot lately.

My one cat had an accident and broke his hard palette. He had to eat diluted canned food and I was concerned he wasnt getting enough nutrition.

Some of what I've been learning has astonished me!

Pet Nutrition (http://forumpets.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=35)

I've since switched all three to a high meat dry food supplemented daily by canned food and any meat scraps I can come up with. I was especially impressed with the information on water intake as I have had cats with uti and stones before.

The results have been amazing as far as coats and weight maintenece goes.

I mainly feed Innova dry food but I also rotate amoung other brands occasionally for variety. Currently mine are eating California Natural dry. I also give them some canned food (various high quality brands) daily.

thanks a lot originalfatc for the useful info :)
I'm concerned about this matter as my pets have very sensitive stomach...

opokki, I'm sure your pets are healthy and happy ;)

petshops in my area usually offers Hill's Sci Plan and Iams...
which is better or would u recommend?

I've been browsing around, and it seems most people agree on feeding their cats with Royal Canin...it seems appealing to me, as it has different formulations for different cats needs...what do u guys think?

Royal Canin is a good brand IMO. I bought a bag a while back and mine loved it. If its available in your area and your cat likes it I think it would be well worth giving a try.

After a little research about cat foods, I now feed Mogey 1/2 - 3/4 cup
of Nutro Max Cat Kitten (dry food) per day, and every morning, he gets
a half a pouch of the Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care wet food. He loves
the Nutro foods better than any I've tried with him. He wakes me up in the
morning so I can fill his bowl for the day and get his daily serving of wet food.
This is a premium food and is therefore on the higher end of the price scale,
but the benefits, a shiny coat, low litter box odor, and a healthy, happy,
playful 6 month old kitten who loves his food, are worth it to me.
To anyone who is new to cat/kitten ownership, do your homework when it
comes to food and make the right choice about what goes into your baby's
bowl. There is good information on about.com about cat food and what all
the ingredients mean and what to avoid. :)

I feed them Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care Adult Cat Food, it is dry food, and I am very happy with it.

I started out feeding them the 9 lives wet, and meow mix dry as a snack. But then I started to do research on cat food, as it seemed my cats were always hungry and their little box odor was over powering. I found out that a lot of the foods that you find at a grocery store i.e. 9 lives is pretty much kitty junk food, just like a Big Mac to us humans ;-)

We switched them over to Nutro wet and they LOVED it, and I slowly switched them over to the Nutro dry, which they at first were not happy about. But now we have them fully off wet food, and they love the Nutro dry now. I saw a big difference in them when we switched over to Nutro and saw an even bigger difference when we took them off the wet food.

I found a pet shop in my town that sells this food. I picked up a bag
because I thought the name was weird. I read the ingredients and it
sounded impressive. They had a trial size bag and I bought it, took it
home and Mogey gobbled up the little handful that I gave him. I think
it may even be cheaper than what I'm feeding him (Nutro Max Cat Kitten)
Has anyone had any experience with this food? Does anyone feed this
to their own cats? Just wondered.

I am currently using Chicken Soup...I've been using it for almost 5 months and this is the second time I've used it (I like to rotate brands). My cats seem to do quite well on it and they love it.

Mogey threw up and had diarrhea this morning. I talked to the nurse at his vet's and she said he probably just ate way too much of the new food at one sitting (he did) and his system wasn't used to it. The best way to introduce a new food is by gradually mixing it into their usual food. I will wait a while before offering him the Chicken Soup food again to let his tummy settle down.
I still think it's a good food, maybe TOO good because he really liked it and kept begging for more. It was my mistake for letting him eat too much. :o

I'm going to abandon the Chicken Soup cat food for my cat. I tried again to feed him a little bit with his regular food yesterday and he threw up this morning. I think it is a great food but his system just won't tolerate it. He likes his regular food just fine (Max Cat and Natural Choice Complete Care) and he's doing great on it so were going to stick with it.

I feed my cat Wellness Salmon, Turkey & Herring Oil Formula dry food. My cat loves it. It might be a little pricey but well worth it. It also has " No meat by-products". For more info. go to www.omhpet.com. It will even tell you what pet stores carry it in your area. Toodles......

Good morning, I had been using Eukanuba with great results and occasionally Iams if I couldn't get to the pet store. They especially liked the lamb & rice and salmon flavors. The Iams did not have the same results in skin and coat as the Eukanuba.

After reading the cruelty at Iams string I have switched to Nutro natural food line. I free feed dry food and they share one can in the morning between the four of them. If I were to give them more, they don't finish it and then it spoils. We are four days into this new food and everyone seems to like it. Best of all, no one is throwing it back up. ;)

I think Wellness would be a good pet food if they didn't use canola oil.
It is TOXIC. Don't feed it to your family or your pets. Do some research
to find out more. www.karinya.com/canola.htm

That is the first I ever heard about canola oil being bad for humans & animals. I'll have to do some more research. :)

I just recently switched to Nutro as an alternative to Eukanuba/Iams. I have been reading about the "Chicken Soup" pet foods on their web site and I am as impressed as Mogey's mom. I didn't need a dictionary to read the label and it has all of the necessary vitamins and nutrients a cat needs.

I had been reading posts from others who have fed their pets "Chicken Soup" with positive results. I'm going to buy some on my way home from work tomorrow and let the gang try it out. Luckily for me they have never had a bad reaction to switching foods.

My 3 yr old cat gets Eagle Pack dry food (thinking of switching to Blue Buffalo or Wellness), and Sheba moist food. As for canola oil being toxic for humans and animals, people may want to read more about it. Try also reading:

(there are 3 pages to this one, the first page is the information found on different websites and in emails, the other two pages debunk this myth).

I'm still not going to eat canola oil or feed it to my pets.

Of course, the canola industry is going to dispute the claims.
It's a huge industry because nearly everything has canola oil in it and
it's very hard to avoid.

Back to topic-we're very lucky to have lots of brands of pet food to choose
from and it's important to read labels and make an informed decision about
what to feed our "other children". I get annoyed when veterinarians
recommend a food brand because they are getting compensated for it or are getting benefits from the company for recommending it. When a new pet owner asks a vet "What is the best food for my pet?" I wish the vet would tell them what to avoid (meat and bone meal, unspecified "meat" or "animal" products, by-products, BHA and BHT as preservatives to name a few) and a list of different brands in different price ranges that meet this criteria and how to do cost comparisons (cost per daily feeding, instead of cost per bag) rather than just recommending a certain brand(s) that they sell in their office.

OK, I've had my say. Thanks for listening to my opinion. That's what
this forum is for, to hear all the ideas and advice and stories of others.

Peace and Love to all the petlovers and their pets. ;)

I trust the snopes link. Canola may be related to rape seed, but then tomatoes and potatoes are members of the same family that includes deadly nightshade, a terrible poison. I'm not going to stop eating tomatoes.

My cats eat Hills Prescription Diet to prevent urine crystals. Occasionally I give them some wet food as a treat and because it helps to further reduce the ph of their urine.

What would be an appropriate thing to do for a cat that decided to open up a deep-fryer and drink some of the oil?

Hi there, I was reading this post and I couldn't help but let you know about Iams. Please, please STOP feeding your cats Iams. The Iams company has been inhumanely testing on animals for a very long time now (by inhumane, I really do mean CRUEL). There is way too much information to type in this post so... please visit this website:

Iamscruelty.com (http://www.IamsCruelty.com)

I give you my word that this is not some pornographic site or anything like that. You will find all information you need on this site... there are also videos from undercover investigators showing what goes on in these laboratories. I warn you though - they are hard to watch.

Just, please visit the site.

Thank you.

My 21 year old Pud likes canned salmon alternating with chicken. At her age she can have what she likes. I never leave food down for her anymore. She asks I give.:)

Has anyone tried Urban Wolf? My holistic vet recommends it & I've been thinking about switching my cats over to it. Not only is it supposed to be very good, it would be so much cheaper than I spend now. I have 2 cats & feed premium (Natural Balance, Nutro, Wellness, Innova) canned only. Depending in the brand & flavor, they will eat 2-4 cans a day.

Been reading these threads...if anyone wants to give Nutro a try, they offer a coupon (by mail) for a free bag, 3 - 4 pound, I think...anyway, I've had no trouble redeeming it at PetSmart. Nice to try, and if it doesn't work out, you haven't lost any $.

My two kitties eat hill's science diet indoor formula. They often get salmon flavored whisker lickin's. I do not give them any human food though & they don't beg for it very often either.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this website and find it filled with interesting and entertaining opinions.

I feed my cats Blue Buffalo Hairball dry and add in Eukanuba wet at their lunch feeding.
I really like the ingredients listedon both brands and have no more problems with hairballs. My cats were rescued from a no-kill shelter and their coats were less than adequate. After 4 weeks of this regimine they look fantastic:)

I feed Natural Balance Venison & Green Pea Formula. Even my picky senior kitty loves this stuff. The kibbles are small, and he does not have much trouble eating it. I switched because I have an allergy dog in the house, and she is on their venison diet and the other cat kept eating her food.

Hello, I have a 4 month old kitten (indoor) and I feed him Blue Buffalo brand pet food. It's only been out 3 months in Texas and he loves it. bluebuff.com is the website, it's a great food. I also have another cat (outdoor) that adopted me and I feed her Nutro brand cat food, ( Blue buff is only available at Petsmart and I was at Petco that day) They are both pretty successful with the cats! :p

I just started my cats on the same brand and they love it too. One of my cats had allergic reactions to the food i was feeding her. Once i switched the sores have stopped. Good stuff IMHO!!
