Hi there,
I am new here, I am getting a conure soon and I have some questions. I have done research on everthing, but these are things I couln't find.
#1. Game ideas, what games could I play with my conure during play time?
#2, Cream of wheat, oats, grits, cooked, uncooked? And I know no salt, no suger in them... Also is canned friut and veggies ok? And I heard suger is bad, and it also said they should have ceriel, is frosted flakes ok? It has suger in it. Can they have like boiled egg? And what about meat, yay or nay? And rice, what about rice? And potatoes, cooked, uncooked? And instant mashed potatoes, yay or nay?
#3. bathing, what kind of bird bath do I get? Do I just put a bowl of water in the bottem of the cage? Do I leave it there? Or do I put it in at night, once a week, bathing in play time????
#4. is this cage ok? http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444180 8445&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302047584&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023691&bmUID=1151726187021&itemNo=33&In=Bird&N=2047584&Ne=37
#5.I heard air freshners, arasols ext are bad, well is it ok if I don't spray it on the bird but across the room on my bed? And is my fabreez noticable plug in ok? on the other side of the room?

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to petlovers. I will try to briefly address all your questions below. Hope this helps. If you have further ?s please feel free to ask.

1.) Games -- our GCC would love to play toss & fetch. He would throw his little talon toys off the playstand and we would fetch them back of the floor to his playstand. What a giggle he would get from that. He also likes to go down the back of the afghan behind the couch and when we ask where is Einstein he will pop back up for us to see and we say "Peek A Boo". He learned this from the blue & gold.

2.) I will use the instant oatmeal for them. Can't say I use canned fruit because that has too much sugar. Cheerios, a little Life or Shredded Wheat are what I give as a treat. Frozen veggies warmed up are OK. Fresh are better. Potatoes should be cooked - fresh sweet potatoes are good.

3.) Bathing really depends on the individual bird. Some love to be misted - others hate it. Some love to go in the shower with their owners - some don't. Others like the pan of water at bottom of their cage and will use that. It just depends on the likes of the individual bird.

4.) I am currently in search of a new cage for our GCC. We started with something about the size you are showing and it was too small. My son got a larger cage but it was powder coated and the powder has been chewed off in places and has rusted. NOT GOOD! So now I am looking at Kings cages which has a much stonger coating. Yes they are more expensive -- but you can either spend $90 - $100 every two years or spend the $200 all at once and have a good solid cage for twice as many years.

5.) No no sprays, or plug-ins as birds have very, very sensitive respitory systems and these scents are enough to be fatal to some.

6.) Also, no cooking with teflon or non-stick as the fumes created from cooking with them can be toxic to birds.
