Hi, everyone. I'm new to this board, and I need some advice. My fiancee and I have two pitbulls. I hope people on this board aren't wary of my breed because they are extremely gentle dogs. Anyway, my problem is with what my oldest dog does when we take her outside. She LOVES to eat dog poop!! It's so hard to keep her away from it, especially when we take her outside at night. The other dog does it sometimes, too, but what's really gross about her is if we have them at a park and they are off the leash, sometimes she'll find some poop and roll in it! Both of their habits are so disgusting and annoying, as I'm sure you can tell. I've heard that sometimes dogs eat poop because they are lacking some nutrients in their diet. Does anyone have any advice for what I can do to make her stop wanting to eat poop? I hope I haven't grossed you all out too badly, but I'd really appreciate some help!

That's a more common problem than you may think!
The rolling in it is a normal *dog thing* instincts as a hunter is to hide their own scent, therefore aude de dogue.
As far as eating it goes, keep them away from it whenever possible. There's supposed to be things you can feed them to make poop taste bad (ok, so it tastes good now? and who gets the job to test and see if it tastes worse?)

LOL originalfatc.. wonder how much that job pays? LOL.. whatever it is, its not enough!
Hi stephlee and welcome to the board :)
Although its annoying and gross... its very normal for dogs to do this. I heard somewhere that dogs eat doodoo because they lack nutrients in their diet, I dunno. Try posting in the "dog question" section. We have a vet who visits this board and he may be able to help. We used to have a dog when I lived with my parents in the country that used to roll in blood after the neighbors slaughtered a cow... talk about gross!!. And he always came home with a hoof or something as a added bonus UGH!. Anyways... good luck to you and keep alot of doggie shampoo handy :D

Eating poop is so gross. We have a hard time keeping Max out of the cats' litter boxes. He is getting better, but I wish I knew why he thought to go digging for treats (and I do mean digging) in the cat toliet. I've been told that cat poop is fine eating for dogs, the vet said not to worry just try and keep him out of it. The really gross part is that after he has had his mid-day snack, she always wants to give me a kiss on the lips. Thanks but no thanks!
